- As a South Indian, I am not good at speaking Hindi. Professors teach in english, which helps me to understand more better.
- There are less lectures , which allows us to focus on some other courses or preparation for any exams.
Dislikes
- There is relative grading system. The grades are given based on the highest marks of the class. Because of this system, I got low grades with better marks.
- There is no lift access to students . So we will have to use stairs.
- The ratio of girls : boys is 1 : 3, which can be improved for better balance.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is relevant and comprehensive, which prepare for further academic year and real world. As I was influenced by technology and AI, I choosed this course. In first year, we had basic like maths, c , c++, physics, workshop, CAD etc , which laid a foundation for further years. There are few low credit subjects like Social Internship, Univeral Human Values, Life Skills and Mentoring, Aptitude, Academic Research Writing which is very useful. The teaching is mostly relied on PPTs and notes. The PPT is bit complex in language, which can be improved by simple language which is understandable. The exams are well structured with the frequency of every 25 days or 1 month. They are from easy to moderate.
Internships Opportunities
As I am still in 2nd year, I am not aware of internships. But I heard from seniors, there are internship available. There are summer term (May - June) and winter term (December ) where we have to do intership.
Placement Experience
The placement is the one of the strongest region in this college. From 6th semester onwards students become eligible for campus placements. From 4th semester, there is placement training program which makes students get ready for interviews, tests in placements. There are prominent companies who visited our college like Microsoft, Google, Infosys, TCS, Wipro etc. The highest package offered by a company is Rs. 54LPA and average placement is Rs.8LPA. 90% of eligible students gets placements. My plans after degree is to study MBA and get into entrepreneurship and business.
Fees and Financial Aid
The detailed fee structure of my batch is : In first year , the tuition fee is Rs. 272400, along with Exam fee of Rs. 5000 and Security Deposit of Rs. 2500. From 2nd year, Security Deposit is not available. So the total fees for one year without scholarship is Rs. 277400 (for first year +Rs.2500 for security deposit). As I have awarded 20% scholarship (tuition fees) for each semester based on my Merit mark. It will be continued only if I maintained 7.5CGPA. So the tuition fees I will paying is Rs. 217920. There are so many scholarships like Merit, CUCET Scholarship, National Entrance Exam Scholarship etc. Additionally there is Rs.11000 for TPP (Training Placement Program) which is optional to be on 2nd year.
Campus Life
My overall experience with campus is vibrant, in both personal and professional aspects. There is Freshers Day, which is held between August - September, Tech Invent which is usually held on November and CU fest , which is usually held between February - April. There are nearly 8 to 10 libraries in our campus. There are so many books, journals, theses are available in library. Students have the access to library form 9.30 am to 8.00 pm. There are projectors in our classes to make lectures more engaging through PPTs. There is ACs which provides coolness in the environment. There are wifis in the computer labs . There are so many sports facilities offered on campus. There are few grounds in our campus. There is a sports campus which provides training to students. So many sports atheletes from national team are from this college. One of the best pacer of indian cricket team, Arshdeep Singh who contributed in winning T20 World Cup is from our college. There are so many clubs like IEEE, Event Enclave, CUEC, etc which provides opportunities to students.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel Life is manageable. There are 4 seater rooms for girls. For each student in room, there will a cupboard, table, chair and bed for each student. There is three fans and lights in a room. There is a balcony for each room. The meal quality is moderate. As I am a South Indian, it took time to adapt to food. There is non veg twice in a week. The breakfast included Chole bhature, Aloo Paratha, Poori, Bread and Jam, Poha etc. For lunch, they provide two to four curries or gravies. The snacks includes Biscuits, Macroni, Pasta,Samosa, Patties, etc. In dinner, they include desserts like Gulab jamun, Kheer, etc. There is south indian meals only at dinner which is provided only to South Indians.
Admission
There are few colleges I have applied for including Amity University, SRM University etc. I got confirmation too. But I was unable afford those colleges. Chandigarh University has scholarships, so the fees was lower than other colleges . It is in the list of NIRF ranking, NAAC accreditation, QS world ranking. These are the few reasons I choosed this college over the others. Despite preparing for JEE and BITSAT, I was unable to get good score. So I was unable to apply for IITs , NITs and BITS. The reason for this is my time management. The admission process for Chandigarh University is smooth and easy. The exams like JEE , state entrance exams (KCET, KEAT etc) are accepted in this college. There is college entrance exam which is CUCET. This is preferred by most of the students as we get scholarship based on this score.
Faculty
The faculty: student ratio is 2:25, which is quite manageable. The faculties are approachable and they clear the doubts and give guidance. One of the best faculty I had is Prof. Deepak Sir, who teaches maths. His way of teaching and approaching a problem is easier to understand. We have three categories of subjects. Hybrid (Theory + Practical), Theory Subjects, Practical Subjects. In Theory Subjects, there are two MSTs and one EST. In Practical Subjects, there is one Lab MST and one EST. In Hybrid subjects, there is two MSTs, one Lab MST and one EST. Each MST is of 20 marks. EST is of 60 marks. Lab MST is of 15 marks. The course curriculum is relevant for future.
Interview Experience
I had online exam during admission. The exams consists of questions from maths, physics, chemistry and aptitude. It was easy to moderate. As I prepared for JEE, I have revised the same topics from jee syllabus. For Aptitude, I prepared from internet and YouTube.
Night Life
The nighlife in college is calm. My favourite hangout spots are Fountain Park and South Campus. After classes, around 6.00pm, I and my friend plays shuttle near the A3 Block, which is refreshing. The gym timing is from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm. The gym is there in every hostel. The cafeterias close by around 10.00 pm. Library closes by around 10.00pm. The hostel timing for girls is till 8.00pm. The campus is well guarded by number of securities. The famous hangouts spots inside the campus is Food Republic, Fountain Park and South Campus. In outside the university, the famous hangouts spots are Rock Garden ,Sukhna Lake and Bird Park. It is safe to roam around at night.
