What Students Say
Likes
- The environment of the place is quite peaceful and away from the hustle bustle of city
- The college gives you ample time to prepare for competitive exams
Dislikes
- Placements have seen a significant dip after Covid19
- The curriculum is a bit outdated and hasn't been revised
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is bit outdated just like every oter government college in India. It follows IIT Roorkee in terms of curriculum. No new courses related to ucoming technology are taught. It needs a revision.
Internships Opportunities
The intership opportunities were quite scarce and students have to search for them off campus. A government organisation Bureau of Indian Standards did visit the campus for a 2 month opportunity but there were only 5 seats- one from each department and criteria was a GPA of 7.5+
Placement Experience
Students become available for placements in their final year only and selection criteria for most of the companies is 6.5 GPA+ and for good comapanies it can be 7+. Most of the students here prepare for competitive exams like CAT, GATE and UPSC. Branches like Mechanical engineering, Electrical engineering still have some scope of placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure was divided in two semesters for a year and total fee for each semester was around 35000 and all kinds of fee was covered in it. The hostel and food fee was of 20000 and it included all three meals. There were several kinds of scholarship available like Tuition fee waiver and Merit Based Scholarship. Tuition fee waiver scholarship covered the total tuition fee of the entire course and Merit based scholarship is given to top 3 students of class. Since it is a government college, fee is not hiked much
Campus Life
The social life is restricted to the boundaries of Pantnagar but that will help you make life long friends. There are two small markets there. The nearest mall is in Rudrapur where students are only allowed to go after permission. The national level fests are organised like Colosseum and Litrosphere.
Hostel Facilities
The room offers a bed, almirah and a study table. There is only a provision for double sharing rooms for girls throughout 4 years. The quality of food is okayish at times and bad at some. There are no options for PG or a rented room in the area.
Admission
This college has quite a reputation in Uttarakhand and North India in general. It has a strong alumni network and a legacy of 60 years which makes it a great choice for the students. I got a rank of around 95000 in JEE and couldn't get into any of the NITs and IITs, this turned out to a good choice for me.
Faculty
It follows the percentage system and relative marking is not there. The professors are approachable if you pay them the much needed respect. The exams are easy to moderate. If you prepare well enough for a week you'll be good to go.
Night Life
The campus has no night life at all. The hostel timings are quite strict for girls. Girls have to be back in the hostels by 7 pm and no such rules are applicable to boys. There is a gym in the university stadium and a library too. There is a Central Computing Facility too that where you can study.
