Course Curriculum Overview

3

The curriculum unlike the old ones have a course which is specifically designed for mechanical students. The exposure this campus gives is amazing. The exams are of a predictable pattern always repeating the same questions from last years. Therefore a person who referred the last years papers have an easy paper. The only problem i see with mechanical is they have a low rate of campus recruitment.

Placement Experience

2

CUSAT offers excellent offer packages. But for CS, IT and Safety Fire Students. Even though a core branch, Mechanical Engineering has a very low rate of campus placements. Only few people get selected for mechanical based jobs which also have only 5-6 LPA at maximum. For survival reasons, everyone learns coding from the side and try to get into the IT field. I however personally plan on going to the middle east where mechanical engineers have a better chance at getting a job.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have entered CUSAT under the All India Merit Scheme which demands a higher fee rate of 100000 per year. I did not avail any reservation. Some of my friends joined under State Merit for which we have to pay 60000 per year. I dont have any idea about SC/ST category although l know its less for them. The 100000 fee is not only that of tuition but every fee included

Campus Life

5

Campus life is extremely wonderful. CUSAT is an extremely vast 180 acres of heaven. The campus is so vast that we are almost late everyday because we take so much time to reach from point A to point B. The political parties' "cold war" include hosting events. Also there are many certified clubs inlcuding SAE, TEDX CUSAT, IGBC, IEEE etc... There are lot of indoor and outdoor games and clubes and inter-stream competitions but l am not too much involved in those

Admission

Comparing different colleges in kerala, Cochin University is a very reputed college. Almost all other government colleges in kerala is under the Kalam Technological University whereas CUSAT is an autonomous college whose certificates have better value than KTU(Kalam Technological University). We have to write and have a good score at the CUSAT CAT examination CODE 101. Also a high rank is required for students to get into it. Although the exam is simple, the time alloted for each questions is very less which makes it very hard to complete.

Faculty

3

Mechanical faculty are one of the best in CUSAT. Almost everyone here has a phd from IIT. But the problem is only the Mechanical teaching faculty is good with us. Civil teaching faculty is also very nice with us. The Life Science teacher is also amazing. The Chemistry faculty is UTTERLY POOR. They dont know how to teach. They dont give us marks even though we write the required points and we cant say anything to them. The Maths Ma'am is ok

Night Life

5

Nightlife in campus is amazing. Either one of the departments of CUSAT host any events almost every week. The Campus gym is usually a bit crowded and closes by 9:00pm. Ith also comprises of a boxing club. However, the shuttle court, ground, indoor games are free to use anytime. Each department has their own places to hangout, some inside the campus, and some outside campus. Mainly comprises of tea shops where everyone orders a hot beverage and talk out their hearts content. It is an absolute vibe here. The CUSAT campus is extremely safe and there is nothing to worry about as there are security guards everywhere in and around the campus. Only thing to worry about is the feuds that happen between stray dogs which may attack humans.

The campus placements are decent. getting placed in a big company is more about having the technical and soft skills to pass the interviews. the placement training helps us develop soft skills but the technical skills must be developed ourselves.

Students in 7th and 8th semester are eligible to sit for campus placements. Companies like Oracle, Goldman Sachs, L&T, Bajaj, Caterpillar and PSU's like BEL,HPCL and BPCL come to the college usually the coding companies offer aroung 35-40 LPA CTC and the core PSU companies offer around 17-18 LPA. Highest Package is 51 LPA and an Average Package of 12 LPA. Nearly 85% students from Circuit and CS branch get placed and around 60% in core branches who sit for placements, My plans after getting the degree is to join MBA to learn how business world works and how the money flows
