INSITES of the GURU NANAK DEV ENGINEERING COLLEGE

Dislikes

  • Hostel timings for girls are worse. The hostel authorities treat female students as prisoners in the name of safety whereas there're no such restrictions on boys.
  • Traditional methods of teaching. The curriculum needs to be upgraded to bring in more practical knowledge than the book cramming.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The syllabus is good and it prepares you for the placements and industry but the curriculum needs to be upgraded and should include more practicals and industry exposure. And this is for all the branches not just for mechanical or electrical or civil for circuit branches ( CSE, IT , ECE ) also .

Internships Opportunities :

Many companies come to college providing paid and unpaid internships but most of these internships are for 6 months. Many students get placed in the same companies after 6 months of internship in the same company. But if you want to do 4 weeks or 12 weeks training you are own your own. You can choose any industry or company where you want to do internship, college is flexible with that. Or you can choose STEP which is an organisation under the college itself which provides trainings for 4/6/8/12 weeks.

Placement Experience :

A number of reputed companies come to college for the placements for both circuit and core branches. big giants like TCS, WIPRO, INFOSYS, CAPGEMINI, COGNIZANT come to college but many other small companies which offer higher packages come to college for placement. And similarly for core branches L&T, SML , Hero Ecotech, Ralson, MRF, Cargill, Hero motocorp visit the campus. Pool campus drives for companies like samsung and Amazon are also confucted for the students .

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

4 years. 8 semsters. Fees is less for odd semesters i.e. 1,3,5,7 ( 42-50k + 12k hostel ( if you opt for hostel )) and for 2,4,6,8 it's 48-52k + 12k hostel( again only if you take hostel) Relaxation in fees is there for reservation category students and other state scholarships are also applicable.

Campus Life :

The college life is pretty fun if you make good friends and find a decent group of people to hang out with. There are various clubs and sports you can do in the evening like bhangra, gidda, football, basket ball or go to gym or simply just chill at canteen with friends. There's a gurudwara at the campus, many students like to go to gurudwara in the evening and do sewa.

Hostel Facilities :

You get a good infrastructure in the college as compared to other colleges. You get basic furniture - a single bed , a study table, a chair and an almirah. There're couple of pg options available near the college at very reasonable price. So if you like freedom toh should consider the pg. Food quality is below average and the mess staff is moody.

Admission :

Getting admission here is pretty easy you have to score decent ( above 85% ) in your 10th and 12th. You can enroll yourself in the PTU counselling ( which i did) ( the PTU counselling fees was 2000 at my time that was 2020) and if you're lucky you get admission in this college. Or the second way is to appear for direct admission in the college. But the admission fees will be a little higher. P.s. you get seats in direct councelling only after the seats are available after the PTU counselling.

Faculty :

College faculty is good and approachable except when they know they are wrong. For example we wanted to meet our chief warden to extend the in timings for our hostel ( which was 5:30 in winters) and though the warden was in campus he made excuses for a week to avoid the meeting.

Night Life :

There's no night life for girl students in the college. You get caged up after 6pm in the hostel. But if you want there's 2 small parks in the girl's hostel premises you can play badminton or chill with your friends there. But after 11pm even going to hostel parks is not allowed in the name of security ( which doesn't make any sense) but it is what it is. But on the other hands ..boys can enjoy sports facilities and gym till 9 or 9:30 pm .

Placement Experience:

I don't have real-time data on specific universities or companies. Generally, campus placement eligibility varies, but students typically become eligible in their final semesters. Companies visiting and offers made depend on the university and its partnerships. For detailed placement information, check your university's placement reports. The highest and average packages, along with profiles offered, are company-specific. You can find this information in placement reports or from your university's career services. The percentage of students getting placements also varies; it's often mentioned in placement reports. As for my plans after getting the degree, I don't have personal
