- The first thing that I like and also feel grateful for joining this college is the food they provide. The Mess Dept. of this College has never shown reluctance to spend on Quality of food they provide.
- Secondly the labs and specialized rooms they have are really in good conditions and they keep on updating the devices to the current trend.
Dislikes
- Lack of Interaction. The interaction between Boys and Girls is restricted inside the campus without proper permission from the faculty. This in turn lead to loss of communication skill among the students.
- Lack of professional staffs. From the first semester I've been seeing a lot of Professors and Asst. Professors without the proper knowledge of what they gonna teach the students.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The reason for me to choose Information Technology is that this course covers current technologies that are in demand like CyberSecurity, Networking, IOT, Web Technologies. This college gives importance to mostly practical knowledge instead of theoritical knowledge. The practical knowledge prepares us for the industry really well. I would really appreciate if the curriculum is little more towards the hardware related subjects. The timings of the exams are good and the frequency of exam dates are pretty enough for the students to get relaxed and to get prepared for the next exam. The marking system is damn strict here. The teachers wants us to fill the pages up even if we have no content.
Internships Opportunities :
The college makes a lot of tie ups with private organizations for the advantaage of the students. One of the major internship oppurtunity that I know about is that the Infosys volunteerly approached the college for the free intership with stipends. They chose top ranked students from each department and provided them with internship oppurtunity with stipend. I personally haven't went for any internship but I've given my name for the internship in Nokia. The internship was planned to be held on the mid of the September, but it has been postponed to December for unknown reasons. The offer the role of Machine Learning Engineer as an intern with no stipend.
Placement Experience :
The students get eligible fro the placements and attends interviews from the sixth semester. And the college starts to provide special placeement training from the end of the sixth semester. Even I'm still not eligible to attend the college placements, I hear a lot from my seniors about the placements. From those informations, some of the major and high paying companies like Accenture, Infosys, Sutherland often approach college for the placement. I have no knowledge about the highest package but average package could be ranging from 5,00,000 to 6,00,000 LPA. The highest number of students that are getting placed are from Dept. of AI&DS. With overall count of students attending more than 50% students passes the aptitude and reasoning test round, 15% of students passes the Group Discussion round, and only 5-6% students passes the HR round and getting placed. I personally started to hate these 9-5 jobs after hearing from the seniors who got placed in so called "best IT companies". So, my short term plan is to get placed in a high paying IT company and work till i get fired by any means. My major and long term plan is to start a business with all the savings that I've saved from my job.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Transport + Mess = 50,000 (common for all except for the students who studied in Government schools) Course Fees (Management) = 1,50,000 Course Fees (Counselling) = 75,000 Course Fees (Counselling + First Gradualte) = 50,000 The College also provides variable scholarships to the students coming under reservation communities according to the income levels of their parents. The College under Anna university regulation, provides free education for the students who finished their higher secondary education in Government Scools. On average, a student joining through the management side require atleast 9,00,000 to complete their course. For a student joining through counselling require atleast of 6,00,000 to complete their course. As a boy from a middle class family, the course is pretty affordable and has a good value for money we pay.
Campus Life :
According to me the campus life is pretty boring. Let me share my experience on a culuturals that is held in our college. The main goal of the faculty is to restrict the students from bringing phone inside the auditorium. So, they set up a three step verification for the phone avoidance. the faculty members checked us for the phones like we gonna get boarded on a flight.Next they wanted us to tuk in our shirt before entering the auditorium, then they finally made us sit. Then they brought up some silly rules like the audience should not shout to cheer the performers of culturals, audience are not allowed to stand up from their place without proper reason. Simply we are only allowed to clap our hands to the performers. Other than culturals, We also had some course related events like 'Hackathons', 'Technical Symposiums", 'Seminars'. The college having two central libraries and they have small libraries for every blocks. The resources they have is pretty satisfactory fro the students. They also have smart classrooms for every blocks there they fixed a huge smart TV to teach students in a smart manner. The importance to sport is not that appreciatable, they conduct an event called sports day only once an year.
Admission :
My cutoff for engineering was too low to join this college but the only thing that was a favour to me is my community. I come under a reserved community, and my friends who are from other communities with higher cutoff than me couldn't make it to Panimalar. My admission to this college was through Government Counselling by choice filling. Before my choice filling, I've heard a lot about Panimalar through Social Media and I've got fascinated by their placement percentage, food quality, transport quality, etc... So, I placed panimalar at the top of the choice list and It's the only college I chose from Chennai. I've made choices majorly from Trichy like K Ramakrishna Engineering College, Saaranathan Engineering College, MAM Engineering College and other colleges around Perambalur, Salem. I was so happy when I got an admission in Panimalar. They invited me directly to the college for the admission process. Me with my dad went for the admission. There was a huge queue sitting in front of us. We got amazed by the demand for the admission in this college. After all our time in the queue we finally got into the admission room. They first got all required documents and xeroxes from us including the printout of the admission invitation. Then we paid the fees for the first year including book fees. Then the faculty members clearly explained me about the rules of this collge.
Faculty :
The faculty-to-student ratio of this college is approximately 20:1 i.e in a class of 60, the students are divided into three and get mentored by individual mentors. The faculty is easily approachable as they employ attenders for each floor of a block. No problem between the students is left unattended and proper action is always taken accordingly. I've got a lot of good staffs namely Mr. Balaji, Mrs. Muthulakshmi, Mr. Premkumar and more these staffs never failed to support me in critical situations. Meanwhile there were also staffs such as Mrs. Thenmozhi, Mr. Sridhar, Mrs. Thamizharasi who I don't like at all for several reasons like seeing partiality, being too strict, not caring whether students learn the concept or not but only aiming to finish off the syllabus. The students have to face two Internal Assessments and a Model practicals Exam before the End Semester Examination. Speaking about the toughness, the internal assessments are asked pretty simple, and the management is strict about internals as they event sentence something called "stayback" when given the student need to stay until the normal college working hour, while other students leave as soon as the exam ends. Moving to the End Semester Examinatiion, most of the questions asked are really tough and consume a lot of time to answer and the students majorly struggle to manage time to finish the exam. The percentage of failures for each class is less than 5%.
Night Life :
The hostel fee is too expensive in Paniamalar, here they charge 90,000 for the hostel and charge extra 10,000 for the wifi availability. So, I stay at a rental room near the college, with three of my school mates. I don't have much knoeledge about the life in the hostel of Panimalar, but according to my friends who stay in hostel, the gym is pretty small and the canteen doesnt have a lot to eat. The sad part is the hostel students are never allowed outside the campus except if they're gonna visit their native or any other events outside the college. For me as a day scholar and living outside the college, it is pretty advantageous and we can roam anywhere we want at any time. There are pretty good hangout places like EVP Cinemas, Queens land (amusement park), KFC, Mc Donalds, and a lot more places are there to hangout with Friends. The locality is not so safe around the college.
