Remarks

TKM is more than a college for one who studies here. It is a place which makes you to dream and achieve heights. And it will always remain as your proud Alma mater which made you to grow as an individual. TKM Management plays an enormous role in making this place wonderful to create engineers attributed to society.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

TKM College of Engineering is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and strictly follows Course Curriculum as demanded by the university. Along with the core subjects, the curriculum includes nonengineering subjects like Lifeskills, Business Economics..etc for developing professionals as demanded by present society. The curriculum included practicals (labs, Softwares, etc) along with theory. This is to ensure that you just not end up in books alone. Of course, the setup was suited to research. To complete a BTech degree, we have got 4 years, each year having 2 semesters, and in each semester we are having 2 internal examinations,3 class assignments and a university examination for 6 courses coming under each stream-civil/mechanical/electrical/chemical/electronics and communication/production. Exam Structure is as per the directions of APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University. There are a total of 8 semesters. And in each semester there are two internal examinations and a university examination. Internal Examinations usually cover 2-3 modules of each course, it is for 50 marks and 2 hours. Questions would be prepared by the faculty. University examinations cover the complete course, it is for 100 marks in 3 hours. The toughness of the internal exam depends on the questions chosen by the faculty. However, it is not easy to survive the exams without any hard work. From the exam point of view, the curriculum is such a way that theory is given more importance to practical knowledge. One has to do hard work to get good marks in these exams. The curriculum is designed in such a way that theory classes are more in number than practicals. This makes professionals who are having more knowledge but doesn't know how to apply it. It is not a problem of TKM alone, but the problem of all the colleges in Kerala state affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological university. However, in TKM you have got the liberty to join clubs, organizations and earn knowledge one needs and overcome this problem.

Placement Experience

4.5

TKM may be the only or one among the few colleges in the state to join hands with foreign universities like Koomkin University (Seol, South Korea) to provide internship opportunities for its bright students. Apart from this, students in TKM are able to apply industries for an internship with financial assistance using TEQUIP Programme. Stipend depends on the industry where the student attends his internship. TKM has a good Career and Guidance Placement Unit (CGPU) which ensures placement for its students. Students who have cleared all exams or students who are having one or two back papers are allowed to sit for placement interviews. The CGPU cell under the guidance of responsible faculties ensures each student is capable to communicate their ideas clearly, have taken online courses before the interview. The CGPU cell with the support of alumni brings companies for placement. Out of 700 students passing out a year, 350-400 or even higher gets campus placements. Other students choose GATE exams to pursue M Tech or to use the scores for looking jobs. Certain other students opt for MBA by appearing for CAT, MAT exams. Students who are not done with the campus placements find their own ways to pursue jobs inside or outside India. Most of the Placement was Software Jobs. Leading companies like TCS, Byju's, MRF, Infosys, Bosch, Mahindra, Wipro, Siemens, etc come to the college each year. The highest bid this year was about 18 lakhs. This range starts from 3 lakhs.

College Events

5

'Conjura' was the official socio-techno cultural fest of TKM till 2017 hosted for about five thousand participants. In 2019, Conjura got a modified and then 'Hestia' came as the official socio-techno cultural fest in TKM. Eminent personalities, film stars, renowned dancers, musicians..etc attended these events. As part of Hestia, in March 2019, TKM conducted the National Kite Flying Festival on Kollam beach as a social commitment for uplifting the sinking islands of Monroe and bagged the URF Asian record for the largest of that kind in Asia. In additions to these many other events takes place in TKM under the banner of organisations like Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Cell(IEDC),IEEE,National Service Scheme, United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI),Students of TKMCE for the Empowerment of People and Society (STEPS),IEI etc. which is meant for technical, social, cultural development.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Even though TKM is a Govt Aided College ran by management, with the facilities and opportunities it offers, fee structure in this prestigious institution is feasible. For a student who got admission in Govt seat need only to pay around Rs. 8200/- as tuition fee in each year, and in each semester one has to pay around Rs.2000/- as for semester-course registration fee. Hostel fee including mess fee costs below 5000. Roughly a hosteler has to pay 65000-70000 per year. At the time of admissions, one has to pay around 25000 as a total fee which includes tuition fee,semester-course registration fee, a college library, sports, PTA funds and other miscellaneous. For a student admitted in management have to pay about 5 lakhs in addition to the tuition fee and in NRI Seat it is about 10 -15 lakhs. However, comparing with other colleges and the facilities this college offer, it is cheaper at these standards.

Fees and Financial Aid

TKM offers Merit Mean Cums (MCM) scholarship of about Thirty Thousand Rupees to students based on their incomes and their marks. In addition to these students of the college are able to apply for all the central/state level scholarships like Merit Cum Means for minority students, E grants..etc Students can pursue educational loans from banks. Merit Cum Means scholarship by central govt. I opted to gives tuition fees + 10000Rs. as hostel relevance. Once applied, after verification at various levels, the amount will be transferred directly to our bank account.

Campus Life

4.5

In TKM, you can have a life according to your choice. If you want to have a beautiful campus life by involving various activities in college, or if you want to complete a 4 years degree with strong academics, or if you want a blender of both, TKM offers you anything according to your choice. For those who opt for colorful college life, you will get wonderful prosperous moments in TKM. In TKM, you have got the freedom to believe, campaign your political ideologies, conduct elections and choose the college union, the most democratic thing allowed by a management controlled college. All sorts of students having different political, religious ideologies and social-economic status studies in TKM irrespective of differences. Certain percent of seats in TKM are reserved for students belonging to minorities and social economic backward communities. TKM maintains a healthy male-female gender ratio. About 40-50 percent of the students are girls. The only exception is in the Mechanical Engineering dept. where girls are only 1-3 per class. TKM gives good importance to all sorts of extracurricular activities. We are having one of the finest football cum cricket ground, basketball court, tennis court, baseball court, squash court. For many years, teams from TKM have gone for matches in and around the state attained top positions.TKM is having dance team, music team, photography club, quiz club, film and drama club, literature and debate club, etc which are very active in college and mold students to perform their best in competitions. In TKM, various competitions are conducted under the banner of these clubs and also organized by the student's college union. Society of Automotive Engineers Chapter of TKMCE gave students the opportunity to take part in National Level Events like Virtual Baja and attain top positions are one among the recent glimpses.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

TKM has got a good hostel infrastructure which has fine facilities than any other govt. engineering college in the state. There are 6 major hostels were a TKMian can choose to live. The oldest and largest campus hostel(annex 5), Annexe 2 (flat), Trust Hostel, Annexe 1, Golden Jubilee Hostel and the International Students Hostel(INH). Of these INH is having the super good infrastructure with AC/non AC rooms, TV room, Gymnasium and a good mess( and I must say it will cost for its royal luxury..usually NRI and foreign students choose this hostel). All other hostels are of almost similar standards. The number of persons in each room varies from 2-5 depending on room size. Each student will get a table and chair for studying. All these hostels are having a good mess hall, TV room and Gymnasium (exception: Annexe 1, Annexe 2, Trust Hostel have no gymnasium, that the students can use college gym) For all hostels except INH: Room rent, Salary for workers, other miscellaneous costs below 2500/month The mess is distributive system (we split a total bill among us)-it cost about 2000-2500/- month Total hostel fee including mess costs less than/around 5000. For INH, the hostel fee is about 1 lakh or 2 lakh depending on non AC or AC room. Here food is served on an individually priced system..(one have to pay only for as many as he eat)

Alumni/Alumna

Yes.The alumni network and senior students are nothing more than the assets of TKM.TKM have the largest alumni support. Alumni of TKM are very active in conducting events in and outside college that are meant for the well being of the society. One remarkable thing I should mention is the Post Kerala Flood rehabilitation programs like Back to Home (Building home for the people who lost homes),Back to school (Supplying school utilities to students who lost their things in floods)..etc which was conducted with alumni support. Alumni and senior students help to bring companies to college and thereby increasing the placements. Once you complete graduation from college, you become part of the largest alumni group of an engineering college who helps you to connect to people, explore jobs etc.

Admission

TKM college admits around 700 new students in the first year. Of which around 90 percent are govt seats, around 100 seats are management and NRI seats. To get a Govt. seat you need to write KEAM (Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical) Examination and should obtain top ranks, and this admission is purely by merit means. To get a management or NRI seat, you need to write a test conducted by the management and here also meritorious students get the chance to join the college. In Govt. seat, the fee is as low as 8200 per annum. In the management seat, it is about 5 lakhs altogether and for NRI it is about 10-15 lakhs altogether. I wrote the KEAM entrance and was able to obtain the Govt. Seat. TKM also admits students from other states and union territories (Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar, Jammu, and Kashmir, etc) based on the marks and their reservation as per JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). KEAM JEE Exams usually are held in the month of April, May. Results come up by June 1st week. Admission process starts soon after results and ends by August 2nd week. Classes began by August 1. In addition to the first year, students from other colleges are able to make their way to TKM through inter college transfer after the 2nd and 4th semesters. For students who have completed a Three year in Poly-technique colleges, can make a B Tech degree by a direct entry to 2nd year which is also based on the marks they obtained.

Faculty

5

TKM have got top leading faculties in all departments. Most of the faculty in the college are strict but are supportive to the students. Faculties are selected based on the PSC examination followed by interview by the management. And certain faculties are selected based on an Adhoc basis. However, TKM is having good faculties who have good knowledge in their respective subjects most of the faculties have completed their MTech from leading IITs and many have completed their PhDs from IITs or NITs.TKM has got the most resourceful faculties. Faculties are strict in completing all the syllabus for the university examinations unlike any other Govt. colleges is state, where students are made to learn their own.
