BMS COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING, OVERRATED OR WORTH IT?

Dislikes

  • Campus is pretty small, it isn't as big as it might seem on the internet
  • Hostels are located completely outside the college, most of the people coming from different states live in pg's near by

Course Curriculum Overview :

In the course which I have taken, computer science engineering, a lot of topics are covered, but nothing is covered in depth. So it isn't enough to get a good job. To get a good job a LOT of self studies is required.

Internships Opportunities :

A lot of people get internships at HP/Dell. It's usually a DSA related role. A lot of teachers and a lot of seniors emphasize on DSA(Data Structures and Algorithms). The teachers do a good job of teaching this, so all interns who are working in related field end up doing a good job and the company ends up giving an employment offer to the intern.

Placement Experience :

So placements in bmsce are alright. Most of the cse core people get placed in companies such as JP Morgan and Chase, dell, Mainly HP. A LOT of students get placed at HP. 100% of the students are placed in bmsce. Average package is around 23LPA. Highest last year was 43LPA. My plans after degree is to pursue further education in the USA. Usually from 6th sem people start getting internships. And students are placed anytime from 6th sem to 8th sem. But there are a few students that got internships in 5th sem only.

Fees and Financial Aid :

In bmsce, if you get a seat through kcet, the yearly fees will be ?75,000. If you get seat through comedk, yearly fees will come upto around ?3,00,000 - ?3,15,000. If you want to buy a management seat, the upfront payment varies from course to course. For example, for AIML course, the down payment was ?25,00,000 and for CSE core it was ?35,00,000 - ?40,00,000

Campus Life :

So utsav is the main fest as bmsce. It is a really good fest, a lot of students like it. Other than that there are lot of other tech fests that bmsce hosts. The only problem I've found is in the freshers party. Usually police raids happen at unofficial freshers party as there will be a lot of underage drinking going on. Another thing about bmsce is that HALF THE GUYS HAVE A ROYAL ENFIELD CONTINENTAL. so a lot of people might feel sad that they don't have one.

Admission :

I got offered a seat in multiple colleges. For example, i got information science in MSRIT, i got computer science in Ambedkar college of engineering, i got biomedical engineering in MIT Manipal. The reason I chose BMSCE over ambedkar ,MIT Manipal, and MSRIT was I got CSE Core in bmsce I didn't get a rejection letter, i just chose not to go there as i got cse core. First you have to go to college, over there they will assist you fill out a form. Once done, you need to pay around 2.6lakh (for people going through comedk, idk about kcet) and then you will get a receipt. So after that you go to the main building, there you will fill out an online form in front of a faculty member. Once that's done, you will have to go to the admission office, and submit around 4 Xerox copies of all documents required, and they will take a photo of you also. After that pay the remaining fees.

Faculty :

There are various types of faculty members, there are a lot of strict teachers, but the are a lot of chill teachers too. The deans are pretty strict but all the teachers are very approachable. It's easy to ask doubts. For hostel students, each hostel student will be a part of a small group of students which a Dean will be responsible for. Something like a temporary guardian. For every 35 students, one Dean is responsible. The problem is some faculty are very biased against people who come through management quota. They sometimes purposely fail students who came through management quota and then push them to take a retest. To take a retest you will have to pay 1000 per subject. So yes it's another way they extract money from management students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Our college (NHCE) is affiliated to VTU but it's autonomous college. I like mechanical engineering and my father is also a mechanical engineer which inspired me to mechanical engineering. It is a bit outdated, expect more applications of the concepts. As I said we have exams every month, the frequency is good and the difficulty of exams I mid to easy range.

Course Curriculum Overview:

There course subjects included in each semester is pretty much related to the branch of the student, each course subject has an important role in making the student ready for jobs. Some of the core subjects are necessary for real world applications and in the interviews as well during palcements ,questions have been asked from various subjects. Sometimes the speed of covering the syllabus is fast which makes us mug up the topics which is not beneficial for us because this method doesn't hold any value when it comes to applying it in real life.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this curriculum because I like mechanical engineering. The program covers fundamental subjects like thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine design, and manufacturing processes. computational tools such as CAD & CAM are incorporated into the curriculum to enhance design and production skill. practical learning through well-equipped laboratories, workshops, and research opportunities with industry-standard facilities that allow students to engage in hands-on projects. Many students at MIT take part in collaborative research with faculty members, preparing them for careers in research. Frequency of exams is twice in a semester. One midsem and one endsem. Midsems are 30% of your total score Endsems are 50% of your total score. Rest are assignments.
