The Legacy and Downfall of PEC

Dislikes

  • The infrastructure could use some rebuilding and improvements
  • Mess and other hostel facilities are below par and the living conditions are in need of improvement

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course keeps doors to both core and tech industry open post completion. Curriculum is at par with the industry requirements Teaching methods could be improved with newer teaching methodoligies and the need of renewing the lab apparatus is urgent Exams are held every 2-2.5 months and they are fairly difficult

Placement Experience :

PEC is renowned for its placements.. PEC has managed to maintained its placement statistics in times when top tier colleges are struggling to provide decent placement opportunities Some of the visiting companies include JP Morgan, Texas Instruments, PhonePe, Microsoft, Apple (TWICE), Amazon, VISA and AmericanExpress.. offers made by each company vary Highest ever package was 83 LPA (CTC) and aveage package is approx 15.5 LPA (CTC) Approx 95% of the students appearing for placements get placed I plan to either persue Masters or sit for placements after getting the degree

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Tuition Fee -> 176000 Hostel Fee -> 77500 (including mess) One Time Fee -> 19000 (includes caution fee and admission fee) There are financial concessions and waiver offs for EWS and SC/ST students .. additonally scholarships (merit cum need) are given to deserving students. There is arrangement for education loans as well

Campus Life :

PECFEST is the annual fest of the college.. there are no separate technical and annual fests. It is typically held in the first 15 days of November each year The library has a vast stock of all the course relevant books as well as other literature books Most classrooms are fitted with projectors and air conditioners (working) All sports (cricket, football, tennis, squash, swimming, etc.) are available and teams of all these sports are present.. other extracurricular activities include oratory, photography, art among others Several student run clubs including Oratory and Quizzing club (SAASC), charity club (ROTARACT), Art and Photography (APC), Entrepreneurship and Incubator (EIC) etc are pretty active throughout the year

Admission :

I applied to NIT Delhi, NIT Jalandhar, UIET Panjab University and TIET Patiala. I got admitted to NIT Delhi Mechanical, UIET Data Science and TIET Computer Engg. I chose PEC over the other two due to its combined post graduation ROI and the fact that PEC is a govt institution and and TIET isnt.. i prefer govt colleges over pvt ones I didnt get into NIT Jalandhar as i didnt meet the cutoff requirements for the courses i applied for there College admissions at PEC take place on basis of merit generated for JEE scores

Faculty :

The faculty of the institution are friendly and helpful on an average.. some of them are irritable and not so helpful to students Some renowned faculties include Dr. Shimi (Electrical Dept.) and Dr. Sanjay Batish (CSE Dept.) who have received laurels at the national and state level No particular faculties i didnt like There are 2 major exams per semester with 2-3 short quizes, all of them graded. Assignments are given at regular intervals. There arent a lot of failures.. People who do receive backs in any subject are able to clear them in the next attempt. The course curriculum is relevant in 95% of the places.. in subjects like engineering drawing, outdated methods are taught which arent that prominent and in-demand in the industry

Other Applied Colleges

National Institute of Technology - [NIT] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Mechanical Engineering)

Mechanical was a relatively newer course in the college and there werent any placement statistics available as the first mechanical hadnt passed out that time

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology - [Thapar University] | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Computer Engineering)

Preferred a govt college over private

MBA students have 2 internships, one being chemical core internship, which is done after 3 year for 2 months which is not shifted to last semester of 4th year for 6 months. Apart from this, there is a 2 month internship for MBA part. Earlier it was 2 months but now it is, also 6 months in the last semester. MBA students gets their internships done, both paid and unpaid included. But for placements, that story is not so good.

the placements in the college are quite good , but one need to be consistent throughout the four years to get placement , the college brings a lot of companies in the campus and you can get a lot of opportunities throughout the four years. Student have to work very hard to get placement.

The placements are just average. Companies come everyday or everyweek. Placement drive keeps running all time. Packages above 10 LPA have very very high competition. Courses have everything to crack a good package off campus. But students aren't studious they don't know anything they just blame the university

Here the average package is 8lpa. Students start to get placements in their 5th semester. Microsoft, accenture, infosis, ibm etc are the companies which often visits for placement. University also guides the student for higher studies such as MBA and mtech etc. It provides guidance through dcpd, a department of career planning in our college

Some students can get start getting internships offers from 5th semester and most of the students can get starts getting offers since the end og 6th semester. There almost more than 910+ companies that visit the campus with various offers which can be from new Startups to MNCs. Highest package offered was around 2 crore pa and the least being 5 lpa and average being 10-12 lpa. 70-80% students can get placed from the TPP(training and placement program) provided by the college by the end of 8th semester. I plan to get a job as a java developer at first proceed towards a carrier in cybersecurity.

For campus placement students can involve in 7th semester also many students got their PPOs in 6th semester as well. There are many reputed companies visited in PEC like Apple, Microsoft,Adobe,JP Morgan,Goldman Sachs,Amazon etc.Highest package this year was around 58LPA on-campus while average of all branch turns into around 14.33LPA.Overall more than 50 percent students got placed in all batch while around 80 percent placed in CSE due to recession. My plan is to get a decent package after the degree or during my 4th year.

The placements in our college are quite good for my branch ( CSE ) but the mechanical and civil placement rate is very low only a few students sit for placement and are placed. Approx 80% of students placed in CSE, 70% in ECE, and 40% and 20% in mechanical and civil respectively. My plan is to go for a master's whether in india or abroad along with a part-time job.
