Remarks :
There is a lot of scope for improvement, especially where laboratory equipment and materials are concerned. The college also needs to provide better guidance to GPAT aspirants hoping to pursue an M.Pharm. There should also be more opportunities for internships and training, as well as campus placements. Social media and online presence could be more on par with current trends.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The syllabus is well structured and planned. The student gradually gets oriented into the world of pharmacy. Easier and allied subjects are introduced first. From the third year, the core pharmacy subjects like Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry are included in the syllabus. The practicals are conducted diligently and systematically. Relatively unknown to the B.Pharm degree and the scope of it, GNIPST opened up various options for me to ponder upon regarding my future career.
Placement Experience :
The college provides No Objection Certificates to students who undergo industrial training at pharmaceutical companies during semester breaks. They also conduct an industrial tour to a pharmaceutical factory for the final year students every year. Placements mainly take place in sales and pharmacovigilance sectors. Companies like GlaxoSmith Kline, Cipla and Nestle have conducted campus placements. Median salary is in the range of 2-2.5 lakh per annum.
College Events :
The cultural festivals held in college include Teacher's Day, Freshers', Farewell, Reunion, and an exclusive GNIPST initiative, the Pre-Diwali festival. The annual cultural cum technical fest of GNIPST, Iris, was founded in 2015. The fest is held over two and a half days with a plethora of inter and intra college events.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The overall fees structure for B.Pharm course is 4 lakhs for 4 years. The first semester fees are around 57000, and the second-semester fees are 48500. Other expenses include registration fees for university exams (800 INR), as well as semester fees before the exams (1000 per semester initially, now 1200 per semester).
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I have not personally applied for any scholarship or education loan. Tuition fee waivers are, however, available for minority or reserved students.
Campus Life :
GNIPST provides a very vibrant college life for the students. As the number of students is relatively smaller in a Pharmacy college, interaction and friendships develop more easily with juniors as well as seniors. The entire student body is a close-knit community. Inter and intra sports events, both indoor and outdoor are organized throughout the year. The college also brings in eminent speakers from pharmaceutical and life science, as well as other fields to conduct interesting seminars. There is also a celebration of World Pharmacist Day.
Alumni/Alumna :
The college has a sound alumni network, with its members working in various fields of pharmacy and who are available for providing an unbiased opinion to the students regarding their careers.
Admission :
I got into the college through WBJEE. My rank was around 7000 and I was eligible for applying for Pharmacy. Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology was my first choice because of the reputation of JIS Group of colleges, and also for the proximity to my home. I applied for the Bachelor of Pharmacy Course and was selected in the first round of counseling. Admission took place in the month of July.
Faculty :
The college maintains a sense of discipline and decorum. Teachers are approachable and each student is assigned a mentor for more detailed interaction and guidance. The teachers make it their responsibility to conduct classes and practicals regularly and are also freely willing to clear doubts and repeat concepts if needed.
