Review on St.Joseph's College of Engg & Technology, Palai

Dislikes

  • Less importance for sports and activities.
  • Less importance given to the music club.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum is a bit old but they are updating the syllabus and study materials this year based on newer advancements in the real world industrial field. So it is no longer an issue and helps to attain better course outcomes and is more relevant. The frequency and timing of our batch were a bit messed up due to covid but now it is back to normal.

Internships Opportunities :

Internship are provided in collaboration with various societies like Techmagi and other socities. The interships provided can range from weeks to months as well. The college also promotes doing various NPTEL courses or MoOC courses as well. They help in increasing your activity points as well as help you gain experience. We also have to do a mandatory group project for final year of our course and we are each assigned a faculty for our group. The group for the project can consist of 4people at max and can even be done as a single person.

Placement Experience :

Students are trained from 3rd semester onwards for campus placements. And after entering 7th Semester you will get a dedicated training session for placements for a time of around 1 month. The session includes training to attend various types of aptitude tests, interviews, how to create a CV, how to search and find jobs of your liking etc. The training session is always well prepared and helps a lot. The number of placements acquired by our batch is incredible and was around 800 placements.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The tution fee and accomodation fee of hostels are quite good compared to other colleges providing the same course. Various scholarships are also provided by the college management based on Mark merit systems and others as well. The campus has also been part of various events like IEDC Summit and also conduted a TED talk.

Campus Life :

The annual technical festival conducted by college is called as Astra and the arts or cultural fest is called as Sargam. The technical fest is very good providing us to utilize our skills to build and exhibit our creations to other batches and visitors from outside. The library provided by college is huge including books and ebooks. The facilities and other aminities are satisfactory. College also has various and large number of clubs or groups including IEDC, music clubs and various other associations.

Hostel Facilities :

The hostel room probably consits of living with 2 or 1 roomate. We are provided with shelfs, desks and chair inside the room. The hostel provides wifi as well even though getting good speeds can be hard. The meals provided are satisfactory and better copared to what I have heard from my friends in other colleges. The registration process is yearly and you need to pay first 22k for admission and monthly mess fee which can amount to almost 4.5k . There are also various PG and houses available within the locality if you are looking for hostel accomodation.

Admission :

The application process is hassle free and easy as the faculties will guide you through the process. No suggestions for improvement regarding the admission or application processes. The application to college can be direct or by undertaking the entrance exam if you are looking to apply via that method by participating in KRAM exam.

Faculty :

The faculties are well qualified and has great knowledge about the subjects they specialize in. The college also has lab incharges who are well knowledgeable in the field. Our department also consisted of various faculties having PHDs.

Students who have completed their sixth semester can start their placements. Infosys, Wipro,TCS, digitalcore, USTGlobal , Sutherland, Accenture etc had taken placements from last years. The average package starts from 120000 lpa and highest was 700000lpa. This year itself more than 800 students was placed in different companies.
