An actual review of B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture offered by Lovely Professional University

Dislikes

  • The level of education is quite good in this college but specifically for my course which is B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture, the practical exposure is very less.
  • Examination evaluation system is not that good. Sometimes u get a gross mark which will be lower than your expectation.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course curriculum is designed from the ICAR curriculum. They included all the subjects maintained by the ICAR. This curriculum makes the base of the subjects stronger. Further it gives the knowledge deep inside the subjects. Agriculture subject is all about field knowledge about plants and soil, diseases and pests and also nutrient deficiencies. It also includes some exposure to economics and basics of a entrepreneurship. Though the curriculum is good enough, but it lacks in practical exposure of the students to the field. Through this we get more theoretical knowledge rather than practical knowledge. There are two types of exam during a semester. One is Mid term and another is End term. Viva is conducted before End term exam. Difficulty is avarage to hard to every subject.

Internships Opportunities :

1. Bayer cropscience: offered 20000 per month for 3 months internship as field officer 2. DCM Shriram: offered 4.5 lpa for OJT with 1 yr internship period. 3. Dhanuka Agritech: Offered 22000 per month for 6 months internship as field and sales officer.

Placement Experience :

From starting of 4th year, students get internships and job offers. For our subject, we get some big companies like Bayer CropScience, Tata Rallis, DCM Shriram, Dhakuka Agritech etc with average package of 4 lacs. The highest package for our subject is 20 lacs. Around 80% of students who opt for placement services got their placement. My plan is to do an MBA after completion of my degree.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Currently, the Tution fee is around 1.2 lacs per semester. It will be the same for every semester after the admission. Tution fee can be increased every year up to a certain amount. (If you don't get admission in a specific year) The complete Cost is around 10 Lacs for our Four-year course in Agriculture. Tution Cost is around 9 lacs with some more fees for exams and some caution fees in the first semester. There are various types of scholarships that you can get. You can get upto 35% scholarship based on 10th and 12th marks. Also this can be achieved by scoring high marks in LPUNEST examination. Also there are various quota for regional scholarship and also sportsman scholarships. Yes our college give very good facility to the sports person in terms of fees and academis. Campus placement is good enough is you are capable of cracking interviews. They take placement classes every week. Big companies come to recruit freshers. Average package is 3.5 lacs.

Campus Life :

1. There are so much events happening allmost everyday including some big events like One India, One World etc. you can see the events in lpu.in website. 2. library is full of books and knowledges. You can get almost each and every book from the library and it opens till midnight for study. You can also get many books and journals online through LPU portal. 3. Every class is equipped with air conditioners and projectors for smooth learning. 4. Sports are one of the main things in our campus. Our college gives very much attention to the sports personnel. Neeraj Chopra who got gold medal in Javelin throw also our college student. Bajrang Punia was our college student. 4. There are so many social clubs that you can join through DSR. They used to arrange many events day to day.

Admission :

Eligibility is the 12th pass from a recognised board with 50% marks. No entrance is needed. You can find application details in admission. lpu.in website There is the benefit of Rs. 10000 in hostel fees in you pay your full fee within the time. Exams happen every semester two times. The difficulty is avarage to hard. The admission process is very smooth with the guidance of the mentors from the LPU. There is not a single way for improvement

Faculty :

Faculty to student ratio is around 1:50 as there are more students than faculty for each subject. Though it doesn't impact our learning very much because most of the facilities are helpful. Most of the faculty members done their PhD on specific subject and some have more than one PhD degree with international exposure. Leaning experience from faculties are good as they have specific knowledge that we required. Some of them are also acts as good mentor. In case of interaction, we can interact with them in their free time after the class. LPU has also its own app called LPU live where we can interact with faculties anytime we want.

Placement Experience:

The students are eligible to sit for placements from their final year and should have passed all the subjects. Companies visited are ITC, Adani Wilmar, dhanuka, some startups Highest package offered for the current session was 8lpa to 4 students where the average pay is 3.6 lpa Due to low pay most of the students turn down the job offer and goes on pursuing higher studies. So far, from what I have experienced is that there is cut throat competition in the placements.

Remarks:

After i entered , it was heaven seriously speaking from a small town LPU life for me is no less than a dream life. So here are some DO's and DONTs LPU :- Alwaysintain 75% attendance otherwise you won't be allowed to give your end term examination. 2. Don't get carried away with the crowd , you won't be able to come back to real life. 3. Be as simple as possible so that distractions doesn't over come your focus . 4. Join various Organisations. Here at LPU we have more that 50 Student running organisations , take initiative and be a part in any of these. 5. Weekly , there will be functions , or something or the other so that Students inside the campus are not board , so enjoy them . 6. As i have mentioned before , be choosey to select your friends world is not good my dear . 7. Yes , LPU have more than 3000 CCTVs and security guards are present within 100mt of range , so if you feel anything uncomfortable or someone is trying to disturb or something like that take there help. Security people are really very good.
