NIT Uttarakhand - pros and cons at a glance

Dislikes

  • The college has poor infrastructure. Most of the necessary equipment/infrastructure is running on improvisation. The college doesn't have ample space to accommodate more students.
  • The old hostels (which are offered to girls and first year boys) are poorly maintained and are in shambles. The washrooms are unhygienic and unclean. Another problem is the mess food, it is boring and offers little variety, though the taste is fine.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum is at par with any IIT or NIT. The teaching methodologies opted by the faculty here makes the subjects easy to grasp. The curriculum holds equal weightage to practicals and theory. The curriculum is up to date with industry demands.

Internships Opportunities :

Most students are able to secure an internship by themselves or through college in the 7th or 8th semester. Most of the internship are offered in tech based roles, with minimal stilends as the students are inexperienced. Some students also opt for unpaid internships.

Placement Experience :

Students are offered placements after the fourth year. Students can fo internship in 7th or 8th semester. The average package offered in academic year 2023-24 was 6LPA, while the highest package offered was 14LPA (CSE). On an average, about 75% students are able to secure a placement every year. I personally plan on appearing for the GATE exam after getting the degree.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The total annual fee is 101675, which had two components - academic related and hostel & mess fee. There is no annual fee hike policy but the fee gets revised from time to time. All government scholarships are available for the students, and major private scholarships are also offered, for eg - Reliance Foundation Scholarship.

Campus Life :

Students are not able to get real college experience due to a very small and temporary campus. A technical fest called ProdyoGeeky is held every year in November. The library holds a wide variety of books and is easily accessible by paying a small annual fee. The classes are air conditioned, with availability of podium and projectors. The college lacks sports facilities severely. The grounds are muddy, and the auditorium is improvised as an indoor stadium when not in use. There are several clubs in the college, such as Technical Club, CFAC, etc, however the number of events held is minimal.

Hostel Facilities :

First year students are offered old hostels which are in shambles, unclean and poorly maintained. However, the newer hostels are clean, spacious, airy and have modern fittings. The accomodation is 3 seater for all year students. The quality of mess food is fine but there is little variety in the menu and it becomes monotonous and boring. Some students prefer to stay by renting room in the Srinagar locality.

Admission :

To be eligible for a BTech course from NIT Uttarakhand, you must clear the JEE Mains examination with 75% in board exams. Councelling takes olace through JOSAA and CSAB portals after the exam results. The JEE Mains examination is held twice annually, typically in the month of January and April. Application form can be easily found and filled on NTA website. The entire process from application to admission is streamlined and easy, with little scope for improvement.

Faculty :

The student faculty ratio is pretty good. The faculties are PhD holders from prestigious universities in India and abroad. They take a keen interest in teaching students and love to solve students' doubts. The teachers are very approachable, students can easily meet them in/outside class. They even encourage students to call/email them for doubts in non-office hours.

The placement shows quantity but not quality, in my batch 60-70% students were placed with a highest package of 5lakh per annum and minimum package of 2.4 lakh. As per fees of college the average package seems low.

Remarks:

I chose this college women institute of technology which is in Dehradun because it is the only government College which is for girls and it gives them technical knowledge. The college is funded by many government schemes which are very beneficial for us. We have different seminars winners from course in other things also to increase our soft skills as well as other skills. Hair in my 4 year experience I have learnt a lot a lot of things. We get free coaching for MTech i.e GATE classes and other employability training programs and that too free of cost.
