- The biggest reason why people opt for this college are the placements. This college provides an average placement package of over 30 lakhs which is much more than any other college in this domain excluding the old IITs
- You will be getting all the resources, YouTube channels to study from at the beginning of the semester. Seniors most likely send all the previous year question papers. So even though the course curriculum is said to be hard, you won't find a trouble
Dislikes
- Don't expect much from the faculty. Some of them are actually good whereas you will find some that don't even know how to make concepts clear. In those scenarios you will have to rely on your peers and YouTube. You will mostly find everything online
- Campus Life is the biggest turn off. People spend hours coding sitting in their respective hostel rooms. You will hardly find anything social going on in the campus. The club's are also relatively inactive and doesn't get much funding either.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Since IIIT is known for Information Technology and Computer science related courses it was sort of a no brainer. Plus I had a little bit of interest in Businesses and Finances and hence the course. The curriculum is modern and well structured but sometimes you will find some really useless theory papers that you will have to give. The curriculum is good and modern. There are courses like Cloud Computing, Web Development, Machine learning etc which are some recent technologies and this college provides a course on each of them. However if you want to excel you will have to choose a particular domain and deep dive into that. Faculties won't be able to give you much deep knowledge. They will be providing you with the roadmap and all the basics and intermediate knowledge of that course. Exams are divided into three parts. Formative assessment that includes Mid sem and Internals with 60% and End sem with 40%. You will have to get 30% in formative and 40 % in End semester.
Placement Experience :
You are eligible for campus placements after you complete your 7th semester. Some students also get PPOs when they do their internships on 6th semester. On 2023-24 batch due to recession the Highest package was around 1 crore from IT-BI branch and the average was around 26 LPA. This is including all the branches. Specific IT or IT-BI will have more. Companies that have visited before include Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidea, AMD, Intel, Atlassian, Adobe, Media.net and many more. Around 130 companies visited the campus.this year. And the placement percentage was around 90% due to recession. It is usually 100% in other times. Compared to NITs that have around 60-70% placements this season it is more than appreciable.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Right now the tuition fees is around 2.5 lakhs per year with a hike of 10% every year. The total cost of education is around 11.5 lakhs for our batch and it keeps increasing for later batches. You can avail for loans from banks and since this college falls under Tier 1 colleges you will easily get a loan for low interest rate. Scholarships and provided to meritorious students and different states have different policies when it comes to scholarships. For SC/ST candidates the tuition fees is 0 so they will only have to pay hostel and mess fees.
Campus Life :
There are clubs like Nirtimi for Art, Virtuosi for Music, Genetix for Dance, AMS for media and photography, Rangtarangini for play/Drama, Sarasva for literature. The clubs are good but they are mostly active before big events like Annual Cultural Fest called Effervescence, Asmita, the sports fest and Aparoksha the technical fest. Among all of them I found Asmita this year to be the most engaging. In this college you will only be able to have some fun during fests. Rest of the time the campus is hilariously empty. Sports facilities are really bad. I have never found proper equipments and they are almost always broken. Don't come to this college is you are good at sports. The classrooms and labs are fully Air Conditioned. The labs have good computers but they run on Linux and not windows. Don't come here if you want an enjoyable campus experience.
Hostel Facilities :
Each hostel room will have a bed, a table and a cupboard on two sides. For first year and second year you will be given double occupancy room. In senior and pre senior year you are given single rooms. There are no such restrictions for boys we can enter the college anytime till 2 a.m but cannot go outside the hostel after 11 p.m. For girls the restriction is pretty harsh. They need to enter their hostel within 8 p.m. and if they want to go out they will have to get a pass from their warden. Mess food is pretty bad in BH5, the hostel that they give in First year. It's fully veg and sometimes the food is so bad that your hunger will be completely gone. Only the breakfast is a little standard. In some days the Lunch and dinner are not even edible. I along with some of my friends lost around 10 kgs after coming here. So better keep some money with you so that you can eat something outside. The boys hostels are outside the Campus whereas the girls hostels are inside. Hate discrimination.
Admission :
You are admitted through JEE Mains only and your score should be well above 99+ percentile if you fall in OBC category. Around 99.3 for EWS and over 99.6+ percentile for General Candidates. Your counselling will take place through JOSAA and all the details can be found in JOSAA website.
Faculty :
The faculty here are qualified but not good teachers. They are more of researchers than teachers. Don't expect any extraordinary teachings from them considering the fact that the college is Tier 1. But most of the things that are asked in the exams are related to the topics covered in class. So if you are a little regular then you can easily score well. All the materials are provided to you and for understanding you can refer to youtube. Students don't interact with faculty directly much unless it's some important issue like requesting to allow the student to sit for end sems even after having less than 75% attendance or whether you can give a retest since you were sick. Most of the faculties are understanding and will approve your request. We have Teaching Assistants (M. Tech/ pHD) students with whom we can directly interact for any issues regarding marks. Teaching Assistants check our papers so it will be beneficial if you have good relations with them.
