Remarks :
There are a few members in the management which do not listen to the plight of the students. Rest the managment is helping and cope wuth the students very well.
Entrance Preview :
I cleared JEE(main) and scored 125 out of 360. Counseling was held through JOSSA and my CBSE score was also combined witch made my score 109 and my all India Rank was 79114. I got Metallurgy branch in the fourth round of counseling.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The structure of the course is typical and in detail. The subjects being taught are research and GATE oriented. There is not a variety of choices in terms of elective courses. Only subjects like composites and Non-destructive testing is there to choose from.
Internships Opportunities :
No, the college does not provide any kind of internship. It is up to the efforts of the students to try in different institutes and companies to try for internships. I did my intern fro Jindal southwestern steel plant in Bellary, Karnataka. Some of my classmates did from SAIL, Bokaro.
Placement Experience :
The placement record is decent. Usually, Vedanta and Mahendra & Mahendra come on regular basis . Vedanta offers a package of 8 lacks. Per annum and Mahendra & Mahendra gives 5.5 lacks per annum. Last year 15 students got placed 6 in Vedanta other in Mahendra & Mahendra and a few in non-core firms like info sis and Wipro.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
I think the fee structure is justified. For general and OBC it is 39750 INR per semester and for SC/ST it is 25000 INR which is being adjusted with scholarships. The mess fee is 15000 INR per semester. The mess fee sometimes is less according to the number of days the mess runs for.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The college does not have any tie up with bank s to provide loans. But there are scholarships for students whose parent's annual income is below 180000INR.
Campus Life :
In terms of extracurricular activities, only sports stand out. There is an irregularity in the clubs of robotics and debates. There is diversity and peace prevailing in the campus. Although there have been a few sad incidents were a few anti-Indian slogans were raised which led to quarrels amongst the students of different beliefs. The Gender ratio is pretty low. There may be about 8 male on 1 female students.
Alumni/Alumna :
The network between students, alumni and seniors are very poor. We do not get to interact with our alumni. Hopefully, it will improve in near future.
Exam Structure :
It depends on the outer conditions of Kashmir, if there is no curfew then regular classes go on leading to a hectic day. The labs run regularly as per the schedule. But when the condition of Kashmir is not so good one can observe a shut down of about 2-3 months. Last year we observed a halt of 6 months and 2 semesters were done in 4 months. The exam pattern is pretty relaxing there is one midterm of 30 marks and a major of 60 marks in the whole semester and 10 marks are allotted to attendance. The lab exams a re conducted once at the end 9f semester.
Admission :
After I was alloted the seat I went to a councelling centre ( any govt funded Institute) to fix my seat and after few days I went to NIT srinagar for approving my seat and submitted documents like 10th 12 th mark sheet, JEE (Main) score sheet, Date of birth certificate and registration fee of 4500 INR for general category and OBC and 20000 INR for SC/ST.
Faculty :
Two of the faculty members are teaching here for last 25 years. The other faculty is also experienced in their subjects. The professors here are much research oriented and encourage the students to go for higher study. The teachers and very helpful here and will never run away from clearing the doubts of students. A few faculties which are on contractual basis are shuffled quite often which sometimes creates a chaos in the working of the department.
