Course Curriculum Overview :
There were no specific aspects of the curriculum which made me choose this course. It does prepare you well for real world applications and higher studies. They should use smartboard for showing animations of the concepts. Exams are way too frequent and the schedule is very hectic. Hardly any preparatory holidays are given to students.
Internships Opportunities :
We do get internship opportunities but usually from 3rd year. Some are paid while some are unpaid. We have Semi colon which is J&K's biggest coding club and along with this we have CESA which helps the civil engineers.
Placement Experience :
From 8th semester students can apply for placements. Indigo oil, amazon, apple etc visit the college. Highest package is about 40 lpa while average is 8lpa. Placements are excellent for CSE/IT but other branches don't get a lot of opportunities. I plan on qualifying GATE or JE exam after my degree.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Fees depends on your income certificate and category. For those with general category and income between 1-5 lpa, semester fees is 31000. Admission fees is 75000 and semester fees starts from second semester. There is no other separate medical fees, lab fees etc. Category students have to pay very less fees which is only 10,500 for SC/ST. OBC has to pay same as general category. For those who need hostel, hostel fees is only 8000 per semester and 21000 for mess food. Scholarships are also available but not for general category.
Campus Life :
We have 2 fests a year. Summer fest is known as Techvaganza and autumn fest is known as Rang e Chinar. Freshers also get a fresher's party. Library has pretty much every book you want. Classrooms are top notch in terms of infrastructure and technology. My college supports all kinds of sports. We have a separate cricket ground, football ground, basketball court, tennis court and we get a lot of opportunities to compete with other colleges. Extra curricular activites are top notch; hacking, coding, movie making, singing, dancing, poetry etc. We have a separate club for each extra curricular activity which help in grooming the student in their respective field.
Admission :
I chose NIT Srinagar because NITs and IITs have a high reputation in India. I also chose this college because it is very close to my address. I had applied for NIT Goa because college life is good there but it was too far from home so i didn't pick it. No i didn't get rejected by any colleges because I had a good JEE MAINS score. The overall admission process is extremely hectic. You will need a lot of documents and it takes a lot of time. You need to score 90 percentile in JEE MAINS to get admission although the score is lesser for categories.
Faculty :
Faculties are approachable in general but there are exceptions. I liked EME, Engineering mechanics, Physics lab faculties as they are very interactive and make the concepts interesting and appealing. I hated my maths teacher as his teaching skill was very poor. The exams are moderately difficult. There are 2 exams per semester. A mid term exam of 26 marks and an end term exam for 50 marks. 24 marks are for internal. The course curriculum is relevant but too hectic at times and some students do fail about 10% in each class.
Interview Experience :
There is no interview required as such. But you need a lot of documents to prove that you are eligible such as your scorecard of JEE MAINS, 12th certificate, income certificate, category certificate etc
