Remarks :
The college is overall average. The college management is exactly similar to any government institute or office. You have to run from department to department for the tiniest of your work, like a normal signature.
Entrance Preview :
I took the IIT JEE entrance examination, got 155 in JEE Mains and 128 in JEE Advanced in the year 2017. Had an interest in mathematics from the very start, so opted to engineer.
Course Curriculum Overview :
With a focus on research, the curriculum can be rated as 4 on a scale of 10. The curriculum is only theory oriented and cramming based. A practical approach to the concepts is almost zero. The education system, in this regard, needs to change itself drastically.
Internships Opportunities :
Being a newbie to the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, I do not know much about the college internship or the stipend part. The much I have heard about the college is that the college does provide an internship to the students. But I still don't know about the stipend.
Placement Experience :
The placement can be rated 6 on a scale of 10. Although the highest package of the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar was 72 lpa the average package that the students get here goes as 3 lpa, 3.5 lpa, 4 lpa. The college has a rule of not allowed to appear in the placements if you have been placed at a package of 4 lpa or above. Most of the students go for the pool placement.
College Events :
The National Institute of Technology, Srinagar does not host any event in the campus due to lack of space. The Jammu and Kashmir Government does not allow to cover the Dal Lake behind and so no more hostels or auditorium or lecture halls cannot be build, which is an essential requirement for hosting an event.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
Being a government college, the fee structure is quite reasonable and feasible to the local masses. Plus there are three different categories of below 1 lpa family income, 1-5 lpa family income and above 5 lpa family income. The student has to pay the fee according to his/her family income.
Campus Life :
The campus life for boys is too good. They're allowed to go anywhere, have night-outs and that too without anything written in the college register. Girls, on the other hand, have to be inside the hostel at 7 during May-June. While in October-November, it shifts to 5 pm. They have to give their enrollments everytime they go out, even during day-time.
Alumni/Alumna :
The seniors are super helpful over here. Even if you don't know any senior and go to their rooms or approach them, they'll help you by every possible means, be it anything- academics or extra-curricular. The alumni network to is quite good. The real Rancho from the super-hit movie 3 idiots is an alumni of NIT Srinagar.
Exam Structure :
Regarding exam structure, if you have good terms with the professors or the faculties, you cannot have any supplementary exams or backlogs in the entire span of 4 years of B.Tech. I don't say its something unique to NIT Srinagar. This is the same rule at every engineering college of India. Well, that is Indian Education System where you are marked on a basis of how good you are at maintaining relationships, and not on the basis of knowledge.
Admission :
Crack the JEE Mains and score a minimum of cutoff of that year. JOSAA conducts the admission procedure to IITs and NITs. After paying the registration fee, i.e., 1000 INR for general candidates, you're allowed to sit in the counselling round, where you prepare a list in the descending order of the colleges and the courses as per your choice. As per the score you had in the entrance examinations, you'll be allotted the college in 7 rounds of allotment. Although there are spot rounds after these 7 rounds to fill the vacant seats of the IITs and NITs.
Faculty :
The faculty at NIT Srinagar has a vast knowledge of the subject, but 90% of them are unable to communicate it to the masses. They do not seem to be interested in spreading the knowledge. When I say the faculty isn't interested in communicating their knowledge, please note clearly that a majority of them do so. Still there are professors that take a deep interest in teaching and giving their knowledge to their students
