  • Entrance exam is only merit based and not on other soft skills.
  • Huge campus needs a lot of travelling from one place to another.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The Civil Engineering curriculum at our IIT is dynamic, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical applications. Its emphasis on sustainable practices aligns with my passion for City Designing. The faculty-student ratio ensures personalized attention. Professors, with advanced degrees, bring industry expertise, enriching the learning environment. Term exams are well-timed, challenging but fair, fostering deep understanding. This program equips me with skills vital for reshaping urban landscapes, making it my ideal choice.

Internships Opportunities :

I am currently a freshman at IIT Kharagpur, that's why I can't say much about it. Since IITs are Tier I colleges, it does provide a lot better internship that others, and also attacts reputated companies.

Placement Experience :

Campus placements at IIT Kharagpur commence from the seventh semester. Renowned companies visit the campus, offering diverse roles. Top recruiters include Google, Microsoft, Tata Steel, and others. The highest package reaches 2.68 CrPA, with an average package of 22LPA. The placement percentage consistently exceeds 80%. For those not opting for campus placements, the institute emphasizes employability skills through workshops and internships. Career counseling services guide students toward entrepreneurship or higher studies. With a degree from IIT KGP, the goal is to contribute to the field of Civil Engineering, combining innovation and research. In summary, IIT KGP provides robust placement opportunities, ensuring a smooth transition to the professional realm. My post-graduation plan involves placement, driven by the skills and knowledge gained during my academic journey at this prestigious institute.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee structure at our IIT is reasonable, considering the high-quality education provided. However, there is a periodic hike in fees, following a transparent policy that accounts for inflation and enhanced facilities. The cost to study includes tuition, accommodation, and other miscellaneous expenses. Opportunities for financial assistance are abundant. I didn't avail any scholarship, awarded based on academic performance. Additionally, there are various merit and need-based scholarships available, promoting inclusivity. Campus jobs are accessible, providing students with opportunities to gain practical experience while earning a stipend. Overall, the institute is committed to facilitating a conducive learning environment by offering financial support options and campus job opportunities for its students.

Campus Life :

Campus life is dynamic, enriched by the annual cultural fest, Spring Fest, and tech fest, Kshitij, held in january, showcasing diverse talents. The library, a treasure trove of books and journals, supports academic pursuits. Well-equipped classrooms enhance the learning experience, with modern amenities for interactive sessions. The sports facilities promote a healthy lifestyle, and various clubs cater to diverse interests, fostering skill development. The different societies play a crucial role in building a supportive community. Campus jobs and internships provide practical exposure, and the institute's commitment to financial assistance, like the Tuition Fee Waiver, ensures inclusivity. Overall, the campus thrives with academic and extracurricular activities, offering a holistic student experience and shaping well-rounded individuals for the future.

Admission :

The admission process was rigorous but rewarding. I appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which is the primary entrance exam for undergraduate admissions in IITs. The application process for JEE typically begins in December, and the exam takes place in April. I accessed the JEE application form on the official website of the conducting authority, and the application fees were reasonable. The eligibility criteria for the course were clearly outlined, emphasizing a strong foundation in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The JEE exam itself consisted of two papers – JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE Main served as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced. The cutoff for JEE Advanced was determined based on the performance of candidates in JEE Main. To find the application form and related details, I regularly checked the official JEE website and other authorized channels. The application process involved filling in personal and academic details, uploading necessary documents, and paying the application fee through secure online payment gateways. In terms of reservation benefits, IITs follow the government-mandated reservation policy. Details regarding the percentage of seats reserved for various categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and economically weaker sections (EWS) were provided in the official admission brochure. As a student, I was aware of these reservation benefits, and they played a crucial role in ensuring a diverse and inclusive student body at the institute. Though I didn't applied for any reservation. Overall, the admission process was challenging, but the transparency of information, coupled with the systematic approach of the conducting authorities, made it a smooth experience for candidates who were well-prepared.

From 3rd year students are eligible for campus placement. Companies including Infosys, TCS, Wipro, etc. have visited here with an average of 6 lakhs per annum offered. The highest package was 31 lakh from Amazon. Almost everyone gets placement here but a very low package. I plan to get an off-campus placement after getting the degree.

Placement Experience:

We become eligible from the later part of the third year to sit for the placements as the companies arrive then. Mainly placements are dependent on service-based companies like TCS, CTS, Wipro e.t.c. who mass recruits a whole lot of students with standard 3.5 to 4 LPA packages. Product-based companies like Oracle, Amazon, and trilogy too visited the campus. Oracle recruited a few of the candidates, Amazon too but nobody could clear the trilogy's OA rounds. Oracle offered a package of 15lpa and Amazon around 22 LPA. But a lot of students applied off campus and the highest placement off campus was 72 LPA in Google. The placement percentage is nearly 100% which is mainly due to the fact of service-based companies. I too am interested in IT jobs so am preparing for the same.
