Course Curriculum Overview :
I've got offers for MBA core and MBA HR from IIM Amritsar. I chose MBA core, because I wasn't interested in HR. The pedagogy involves theoretical teachings, case studies, discussions, etc. The students are evaluated on the basis of exams (end term and mid term), quizzes, class participation, projects and assignments. The faculties have mostly have a profile of either MBA or PHD or both in any of the IIMs or other top Bschools in India.
Internships Opportunities :
Internships start from 2nd term (mid of 1st year). In the starting stages, students can go for their preferred streams, and this becomes a little strict towards the end. The projects in internships are real world problems and opportunites that can solved and created respectively. For students without work experience, internships provides a great insight on how the work life will be in future.
Placement Experience :
Placements starts in 4th term (start of 2nd year). The average package is 16 lakhs per annum, and the median package is 15 lakhs per annum. All the students who are not opting out of placement policy are placed. My aim is to get placed through campus placements.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I am currently paying 16.25 lakhs for the 2 year MBA course. This is roughly 15% fee hike from the previous batch. The whole fee is spread across 6 terms, and paid equally. I did not avail any scholarship, and none was provide to me, that I'm aware of.
Campus Life :
We currently dont have a permanent campus, The students are staying in 2 hostels which are 5 kilometeres apart from each other. The nearest hostel to campus is 9 kilometers away. The classes are held in the campus of Government Polytechnic College, Amritsar, Punjab. College arranges buses for commute. Apart from commute, other things such as sports, and fests are done in a great manner. Clubs and committees are formed and headed by students, and they ensure that all the events are conducted in such a manner to involve the students of all kind. Annual college fest, maketing fest, annual sports fest, section wars are some of the main fests and sports events in IIM Amritsar.
Hostel Facilities :
The students are staying in two hostels which are 4-5 kilometers apart from each other. One of the hostel which accomodates 100 students has centralized AC, and the other hostel which accomodates 400 students has air cooler facility. The rooms are double sharing, and cleaing is done daily. I food is mostly north indian, and myself as a south indian found difficult to adapt. Hostel is mandatory and available to all the students. The hostels are located in the city, and it is easy to access other places like hotels, temples, etc.
Admission :
CAT is the entrance exam for IIM Amritsar. When you apply for CAT, you have the option to apply for IIMs and respective courses. I am a male, OBC and a non-engineer. The cut of various profile varies across IIMs and the details are not shared. Maybe IIMs can co-ordinate in issuing the offer letters, so that the students get the best offers at first, and the waitlist can be minimized.
Other Applied Colleges
IIM Visakhapatnam | Master of Business Administration [MBA]
I've got offers from IIM Amritsar and IIM Vizag. I chose IIM Amritsar because it was the first offer I got, and there is no much difference between IIM Amritsar and IIM Vizag in terms of academics and placements.
