Remarks :
One should have passed a bachelor's degree in science stream majoring in life science. The application is available on the Gauhati University official website. For the admission process, the admission form starts in mid June and entrance exam is conducted in the month of July. The fees of application are also minimum(200rs per subject). The classes commence in the month of August. There is reservation provided accordingly to ews, obc, st, sc, PWD, wards of people employed in university, wards of ex-serviceman, also there is a special reservation for students who have completed their ug degree under Gauhati University. The only improvement that I want to see is they should not have any reservations and the website of the university is very badly managed.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I have done my bachelor's degree in biotechnology and thus opted for the same in my Master's. There are 6 facilities in the department and 25 students. The faculties are very much friendly and understanding. Each one of the faculty has completed their PhD degree and is very much known in their respective area of work. Their teaching method is also very good. presentation is provided for easy understanding. There occurs a mid-sem exam of 20marks and a final exam. The level of questions set up is quite hard but if you have a clear concept you can pass them with flying colours.
Placement Experience :
The students are eligible to sit for on-campus interviews only in their final semester. There are about 4-6companies that come for placement. Recently Sanofi Pvt ltd has approached for placement though the results are not out yet. About 20% of students get placement every year. The average package offered is about 4lakhs and till jow highest is 8lakhs. I am in my final year of post-graduation and I am planning to sit for placement when it will be on campus.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees have quite increased as compared to the previous years. About 17000rs are given as annual fees. Also, we have to pay exam fees of about 1200rs. There is no campus job available. Government scholarships can be availed by students.
Campus Life :
The annual fest is conducted in the month of September while tech-fest is not common. The classroom is well equipped and the laboratory is as well. There are a lot of extracurricular activities that one could join. Also, there are cultural cells and social work cells managed by the university student union. These cells take students only after filling up an undertaking form which is available on the pgsu desk.
