M.Tech from IIT

In the year 2016, IIT Jammu was added to the list of India's IITs. Initially, it was under the membership of IIT Delhi. I sat for the COAP counseling session after my result on the GATE exam. There, I got admission to IIT Jammu. The eligibility criteria state that one should clear B.Tech in the concerned field and have an excellent GATE score for the admissions. All the application process was done online along with the payments.

The course structure of this course kind of sets it apart from the other IITs. It was a blend of practicals and theory part. Most of the time was spent in the labs doing work on computers. Seminars were also conducted by the industry professionals on the latest trends going on in the field of Information security. Exams were difficult to pass if you didn't start preparing for them from the start.

Placements were amazing here especially for the computer science and IT students. Top IT companies like Amazon, Cognizant, Dell, HP picked the entire batch of the M.Tech (Information Security). The highest CTC offered to the students was Rs. 40 LPA though only 20-30 companies visited the campus. Arista Networks, The Captury, DESAY S V Automotive, and Toppr were the top-paying companies.

Being a government-owned institution, scholarships are a necessary part of any course. The entire cost of the M.Tech course is Rs. 1.39 lakhs for two years including tuition fees and other charges. Institute provides some basic scholarships like MCM, SC/ST scholarships. Return on Investment and the job opportunity on these courses are very good as compared to the fee structure of the institute.

A lot of annual events are conducted on campus like Technunctus (Technical Fest), Hackathon (Coding Club), Renao (Cultural Fest), Kritash Social Fest, Inter IIT Cultural Meet. All the students of IT participate in the Hackathon. The Technical fest invites students to showcase their talent and invent anything useful of their choice. My confidence boosted a lot by participating in these events and I won some awards too.
