Internship Provided by The Institute

Remarks :

The admission process at Manipal University was quite simple. I had initially applied to two Universities, one being Manipal and the other, Bennet University, Noida. I got call-backs from both and got selected too. Unfortunately, Bennet University called its students in right away and I was not in a situation to pack and leave home quickly enough. At Manipal, the criteria for admission are pretty easy, all you need are your basic documents, and the minimum mark required for BA Media and Communication is a Grade C. Apart from the document submission, I had to also submit a statement of purpose. And once that was approved, I had a phone interview where they asked about my interests, whether I am inclined towards any sports or arts, why I chose the field of communication, and what I was aspiring to become. Overall it was a quick process and in less than a week I was admitted to the Institute.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The reason I decided to choose Media and Communication is that I am greatly fascinated by writing as well as photography. The course has a combination of both, among other wonderful subjects. The MIC faculty is very approachable and they manage to keep up a really good student-teacher relationship. For language electives, they have also hired teachers from abroad, and the student body also consists of people from different countries. The teachers are extremely knowledgeable in their field and most of them have even acquired Ph.D. as well. The examinations were all held as mentioned in the curriculum schedule and as challenging as they were, there wasn't a single student that did not make it through.

Internships Opportunities :

The institute helps in getting your internships at companies of your choice as well as giving a wide number of options from their side too. As for me, they helped me in getting an internship at Radio Mango 91.9. The tasks I had to do were engaging. I had to help in writing radio delivery scripts, commercial scripts, and I also had the opportunity to deliver my skills in the speech by reading out a few commercials too.

Placement Experience :

Students become eligible for campus placements towards the final semester of their course. Currently, I have only been using the help of my faculty for internship opportunities, since I am not looking for placements. But they have connections with big names in the communication sector, and they often have personalities coming in to give talks and interact with the students. A great number of students opt for placements and approximately 90% of them do end up getting posted at really good companies. Others choose to continue with higher education. My plan after receiving my degree would be to take up a diploma in literature in the UK, while simultaneously finding myself a position at a good publishing house there.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Compared to the fee for the year before my own, it had increased by Rupees 18,000. To me personally, that seemed fair, considering the quality of education provided and their lab sessions. They offer various scholarships for students, and also since we are all being faced with the deadly COVID-19 virus, they are providing fully paid education for students who have lost a parent to the virus.

Campus Life :

The social life at Manipal University is just amazing. There is a student plaza where all students join with their friends for snacks or leisure, they have various stationery as well as hostel supply stores, bakeries, etc. The clubs at Manipal are very important to be a part of in every students' time there. Many fests are organized in their names, for instance, MAFIA, the music, and the fine arts club, organize stages for talented students to portray their artforms. The classrooms at the university are very well equipped with smart boards, and they are all fully air-conditioned. The university has an infinity swimming pool and gym which requires a membership. They also have basketball, football, and badminton courts. All the students are part of a discord group which every new admit must make sure they are part of as it is great fun and also it will be very helpful to meet deadlines or share information regarding assignments, tests, and such submissions.

The placement cell is very active in our college and it is headed by an associate professor. The students from the 1st to 6th semester are getting placed. Recently we had companies like Wipley, Optum, Toyota, Wipro, etc. The highest package is 7 lakh and the average package is around 3-4 lakh per year. I have planned to go for government jobs after my graduation.

I got admission in the college by filling the admission registration form which is available online on the college's website. The admissions are completely based on the marks you score in the CBSE 12th examination.

It has it's ups and downs, but it's easy to ignore the negative points and just enjoy the positives if you really want to. There is a lot of politics on campus that can be quite frustrating sometimes, but I think that's the case everywhere.
