My college experience

Remarks :

MIC is one the best place if not the best for a student to live. I got some good reviews from the internet (review websites like Shiksha.com, CollegeDunia, Collegedekho etc.), local neighbours and from YouTube channel like MTTN, MIT Post, TMJ etc and the college's official YouTube channel. The admission process & dates. The admission process is an entrance test named Manipal Online Entrance Test (MET). The application fee: 2000 Rs. So they placed us in a big room where everyone got an individual computer to take the exam. Caution: You have to bring your hall ticket which you'd get in your mail after applying.

Course Curriculum Overview :

There were 15-20 faculties available all the time on the college campus. Our student strength was 110. The faculty-student ratio was 6 (approximately). Some of them are excellent professionals and have industry-related knowledge and experience. Some of them were not that good. You can say out of 15, 8-9 faculties were top-notch, couldn't complain. But 5-6 were the other lot who were not that good. Not only me lot of people had difficulties understanding their sessions. The qualification of the teachers was good, some of them hold PhDs, some of them hold MA and MS in their respective fields. Some teachers used to work a lot on their homework and research about the topic. The English faculty was an excellent teacher and used to dive into details about the topic. But few of the teachers (5/6) just weren't interested in teaching and used to miss a lot of classes. Exams were timely and it was easy to pass. You can pass the exams by just studying the night before the exam.

Internships Opportunities :

Internships are rare and we even had a compulsory internship assessment course last sem. Where we had to do a mandatory internship for 6 weeks. The internship was evaluated for 100 marks. They asked for feedback from our supervisors. Then we had to submit an internship report and had to do a presentation on what we have learned. This internship opportunity was supposed to be given by the college but they didn't. When we asked they didn't help us to find internships. We were left on our own and had to arrange internships through other sources - Linkedin, Internshala, Personal contacts, etc.

Placement Experience :

From my seniors, I hear that 20/30 % of students from our college get placed. But now being in my final sem I know the reality. For covid and lockdown, the placement sector has been badly hit. Only a handful of companies came this year (5/6 companies). 4/5 people from our batch are placed but no placement for the big chunk of people. From 5th sem students become eligible for placements but in 5th sem, no company came to our college for placement this year. Only in the 6th sem, the placement cell started. Companies that visited till now ( some of them came to take interns and didn't offer full-time jobs) 1) Clevertize, 2) Social Panga, 3) Robert Bosch GmbH, 4) Saatchi & Saatchi, 5) Publicis, 6)PR Pundit, 7) McKinsey, 8) Edsol Edtech, 9) Momo Media, 10) MSL, 11) Genesis BC, Offers: 1.5-3 LPA (average). I plan to send CVs personally to companies through LINKEDIN and other job search platforms because the college hasn't provided us with good placement offers as claimed.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The course fee was INR 1,65,000 Rs for each year. For the first year, an additional 10000 Rs. was taken from us as caution money which is refundable. No hidden costs/fees were there. But we had to pay a certain amount of money for Back-clearance exams. These exams are repeaters' exams which you have to take if you had failed in some subject the previous semester. The fee was 600 Rs per subject. Hostel Fees: (including mess food which is 46000 per year, you can't leave the mess in 1st and 2nd year if you're staying in the hostel but after that, you can leave the mess (food) and still stay in the hostel during senior years). There are 23 hostel blocks for students and ample room and space for students. Single attached bath AC: 1,71,000. Double attached bath AC: 1,36,000. Single attached non-ac: 1,37,500. Double attached non-ac: 1,10,500. Double common bath: 87,500. No scholarship, financial help, or campus job is available.

Campus Life :

The social life of Manipal is the best in India for these reasons: around 500 clubs (dramatics, sports, event management, literature, tech etc,). Full freedom on campus, no involvement of teachers and security guards in social life. The cultural fest is Article-19 (happens in even semester). The abundance of books and journals are stuffed in the library. Every classroom has 3/4 ACs, one big whiteboard, 1 projector, and one sound system with 4 surrounding speakers. MIT sports ground is the sports ground of the campus, 1 big cricket ground, 1 football ground, 1 hockey ground, and 1 handball ground is there. College offers a luxury gym service (Marena) for which you have to pay extra, the fee starts from 2400 per month including swimming pool, indoor football track, table tennis, tennis, gym, squash, basketball, etc, Caution- not included in the course fee. You can get a great view of Manipal through student-run media body - MTTN, Manipalblog, TMJ, mitpost (Youtube).

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel fees structure: already given before, check college fees section, Mess (food). There are around 5/6 general messes where everyone can eat and some girls' hostel has their own separate mess. These messes are independent company-run. Messes are situated in various parts of the campus like restaurants and caution: Mess(food) isn't available inside your hostel block, you have to walk to a nearby mess for food. Which mess you want to take is completely on you. 46,000 fee per year you have to pay for mess food. You can't opt-out from Mess in 1st and 2nd year. But you can leave the mess after that in senior year when you can stay in the hostel without mess service. You have to arrange food for yourself which is available in the nearby local run mess where food is much better than the college Mess. Mess ranking (based on food quality): 1) FC 2, 2) Annapoorna, 3) Apoorva. Worst mess: FC 1. Local run outside mess ranking: 1) Manna Mess 2) Sindi Mess 3) Rajasthani.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Psychology course curriculum is great. It's interesting and informational and you also get practical learning Optional English i regret choosing because it's not what i expected it to be. There's a lot of reading to be done and you have to be regular. the teachers don't really do a good job of making the subject interesting. there's 2 sets of exams mid sem is 25 marks end sem is 60 difficulty level - easy-medium

Course Curriculum Overview:

I got a bachelor of arts degree in criminology, psychology and english optional. The branches of criminology and psychology are upcoming in India in the present time. Course taught is revelant and in present. It is regularly updated. I chose tge course mainly due to criminology. Various aspects of the subject is covered in 6 semesters such as forensic, ballistics, cyber, laws, victimology etc. They do take us on field visits. There is one mid sem exam and one final exam. There is record work as well as assignments given at regular interval. The difficulty level is medium.

Placement Experience:

The placement cell is very active in our college and it is headed by an associate professor. The students from the 1st to 6th semester are getting placed. Recently we had companies like Wipley, Optum, Toyota, Wipro, etc. The highest package is 7 lakh and the average package is around 3-4 lakh per year. I have planned to go for government jobs after my graduation.

Admission:

I got admission in the college by filling the admission registration form which is available online on the college's website. The admissions are completely based on the marks you score in the CBSE 12th examination.

Placement Experience:

The college offers on-campus job program for the students to make them independent and responsible. It arranges appointments on the basis of references and interviews. The college also provides Job orientation to all the selected students.

It has it's ups and downs, but it's easy to ignore the negative points and just enjoy the positives if you really want to. There is a lot of politics on campus that can be quite frustrating sometimes, but I think that's the case everywhere.
