Remarks :
I applied for iiest shibpur and nit Durgapur but opted nit Durgapur as it had better job opportunities. I applied for the gen-ews quota during admission. In the civil department minimum cutoff was around 95%ile and I got admission in the csab round one. The counseling process was online and I got metallurgy in the initial rounds of josaa counseling but I didn't hold on to my seat and I got a seat in civil engineering in the csab round 1.
Course Curriculum Overview :
First of all, it was my rank besides civil was not a bad branch to not choose. If we look into the faculty-student ratio would be around 30. Regarding the qualifications of faculties some are masters and some are doctorates and the teaching is top notch as in various other national institutes. Exams were moderate level and in the first year, the electrical exam was quite hard. Our bio mids were rescheduled very close to the end sem as our teacher was ill at that time.
Internships Opportunities :
Many startups offer internships but for MNCs this year Microsoft hired 18 people as interns. To be honest I don't know much about what project is running at present. But JPMC too hires a lot of interns each year.
Placement Experience :
As of this year 68-74% people got placed with the average package at around 8-9 lacs computer science (84%) has the highest package and highest average being 44 and 16 respectively and biotech(42%) the lowest with 8.9 lac highest package and 6.9 average packages followed by civil(40.9%) and chemical(64%) with an average of 7 lacs for both. I am hoping to start a start-up after college. Yup that's my plan to date
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Fees are quite high as we know it is 62500 per sem with a waiver for middle income and lower-income categories. Many scholarships are there like that of ongc for low-income groups. And the fee hike is 10% per year I guess. Many internships are there like Microsoft this year took 18 interns and JPMC gave PPO to 3 students besides the highest package this year was from computer science and was 44 lacs.
Campus Life :
The annual fest is Recstasy and the annual tech fest is Aarohan. Don't know about Recstasy but Aarohan is usually conducted in January but this year it was conducted in March. We have a library with a collection of 10000+ books and 20000+ journals and they are being gradually digitalized to be remotely accessed by students. There are many social clubs like EDC for entrepreneurship cca the biggest tech club. Spicmacay is the biggest cultural club. Enteract the dramatic club, maths, and tech club, debate society, literary circle, Bmep, and still counting.
Hostel Facilities :
We are in an online mode and we haven't visited hostels as of yet so could not give much info about it. But ye have to give 1200 every sem for hostel establishment fees. But we have heard that 4 people share a room in the first sem. 2 people sharing for 2nd and 3 Rd year and single room for fourth-year people.
