Remarks
So I had applied to multiple colleges in Mumbai which includes Dalmia, Chetna, MET, IES. Gave up on other colleges as Welingkar was amongst the top colleges in Mumbai. Also, I had a conversation with all the before mentioned colleges current and recently passed students regarding the curriculum, placement, faculty, management, opportunities given to students and finally took admission in WeSchool after considering all the factors. The minimum percentile to get an interview call is 80+ percentile on the exams(changes every year) mentioned on the college website and usually, there are more converts of 90+ percentile but no worries if GDPI goes well then everything works. Once the application form is submitted then the lists of shortlisted students for an interview comes out and lastly after GD & PI the final shortlisted and waiting students lists comes out depending on seats available, waitlisted students too get in. There is something called management seats, the last hope to get admission.
Course Curriculum Overview
Chose Business Design(BD) as it's like a general management course, I am interested in design thinking and am more of a creative person so it was a perfect choice for me. There is the choice of major subjects in the second year, it includes consulting, analytics, finance, marketing, operation, human resource. There are good faculties in BD like Kaustubh and Dr G for innovation and operations respectively, professors are good and approachable and most of the faculties are PhD holders. Most of the professors believe in learning throughout the whole semester actively in form of projects and assignments and applying the concepts on the same, just not from an exam perspective. There are ample and good techniques/theories that are taught. As our exams were MCQ, it wasn't difficult to pass but yeah there were tricky questions.
Internships Opportunities
Summer internships were given by Nestle, Amul, HUL, Citi bank, P& G, Welspun group, Godrej and stipend is around 10-15 thousand and few are even less than 10k or not paid. The Summer Internship Project is to be made along and submitted in the 4th semester, there is one more project started from last year known as SIRP which is a research project given by the college or you can choose a topic yourself.
Placement Experience
Campus placement starts from September mostly and it's going on till March/April. They do place 97 % or maybe 100%, few search jobs on their own or go for their own startup. Even in the worst case scenario, I think the strong network of alumni comes to the rescue and they are approachable, helpful and humble too. Many banks like ICICI, Axis, HDFC, IDBI, CITI and IT companies like Infosys, Capgemini comes to campus. Roughly a minimum of 20-30 companies does come from small to big. Also Big 4 and other consulting companies like PwC, E&Y, Deloitte, GEP, etc, along with Finance, Insurance, Media, Hospitals and international companies comes on campus. A giant company like Amazon also take few students. The average package is 8.5 lakhs mostly and the highest being 13/14 lakhs in India. More of the profiles come for sales and marketing roles but there are many different roles offered by different companies.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are paid on an instalment basis, twice a year for two years and per instalment is Rs. 2,75,000 plus additional few thousand for deposit and library in the first instalment itself. There are scholarships available based on merit mostly given to fewer students likely to be 10. There is a college tie up with different banks but SBI is the best of all for taking a loan though it's not amongst the tie up the bank. Campus job and internship both opportunities are given by college along with living projects. There is a club to support start up ideas and for the guidance of mentors. The quality of the internship, final placement is good but live projects is fair. Very few companies do not accept other specialization students but the majority all the companies do accept all courses students as its umbrella placement. College provides full support for placement by providing guest lectures of industry experts, grooming sessions and other opportunities to compete.
Campus Life
Unfortunately, we did get to live campus life as of now but the hope persists. As heard from seniors it's otherwise very happening and grilling too, as the first year you are comparatively loaded with studies and activity. There are monthly articles published of students, various clubs, MCOM for general managment and PCOM for placement management. Infrastructure is good too. There are places around campus to hogg anytime along with a canteen in college. There is a huge library and e-library too with several books, journals, magazines. College gives access to various terminals like Bloomberg and others too.
Interview Experience
Yes, there was GD and PI, In GD there were 7-8 people and the topic was related to the privacy of social media usually the topics are socio, economic, political or abstract. In the PI panel, there were two people, one was internal faculty and the other one was industry official, equal number of questions were asked by both. Common types of questions and most frequently asked are - Tell me about yourself, why MBA, why particular course, where do you see yourself in next 5 years, your strengths and weakness, goals in life, family background. All the answers should be crisp and should be connected/ presented as a story as it's impactful. Such questions should be prepared prior only and keep reading newspaper, it's very important. Get answers proofread by seniors, professors, friends doing MBA and make changes after thinking properly. There are more chances of getting asked about anything current ongoing or recent events. Important attitude to showcase is of a learner and being adaptive.
