Remarks
I applied directly for Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, famous as TSEC because although the infrastructure is not that great but the teaching faculty and the placement companies are very great for students applying in COMS(Computer Science) and IT(Information Technology). Also, the college is located in Bandra so you get to explore one of the prominent places in Mumbai. The admission criteria, back in 2018, was based on MHTCET marks, and the cutoff for IT was from 81 but now it is mostly percentile-based system.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose to go with IT engineering because of my core interests in technology and the faculty over here makes sure that your interest is maintained. The teaching staff is very qualified and extremely frank. Though some of the professors might be a bit extra strict, other than that almost all the professors are very understanding and frank and get along with you which really makes it a fun process to learn. In every semester, there are about 2-3 faculty for a particular subject and they manage your practice as well as theoretical syllabus. Induration of 6 months, there are 2 internal assessments with almost a gap of a month and a half and one final semester exam and the level of difficulty is mostly medium to a bit tough.
Internships Opportunities
Throughout the 4 years, many internship offers come and interested students apply, give interview tests ad get shortlisted. Internships are technical as well as non-technical. Also, some of them are paid while few are unpaid. Internships are mainly of 2 categories ie. some internships provide you with real-life problems which you need to solve/help to solve by using your skills while some internships are for learning new skills and implementing them further.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from the end of semester 6 and the minimum criteria for the eligibility process is 6.7 CGPA for some companies while for some it exceeds 7. Companies like Deuschte bank, JPMC, Deloitte, Quantiphi visits and take their interview processes according to which students are shortlisted. Almost 98% of students applying are placed within campus placements. Almost all the companies offer a role of either Software engineer or a business analyst and sometimes sales. My plan is to sit for campus placement and get placed in one of the prominent companies visiting in TSEC with a decent package of around 7 to 10LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure over here is around 1.5L a year. There are a few scholarships for financial aid for students having family income less than 5lakhs (In 2018 it was 5, I guess it is 8Lakhs now) commonly known as EBC. This scholarship is only available for minority quota(Sindhi) and your fees approximately round up to around 87,000 after availing of this scholarship. I think more scholarships even for the general quota could be made available.
Campus Life
One great thing about TSEC is there are a lot of technical and non-technical committees here and they conduct great fests. You get to enjoy, create connections, level up your soft skills, ace your coding skills, participate in challenges, and whatnot. They are just too engaging and fun. Books and journals for all the semesters are available in the TSEC library. Once a student is issued with a library card, they can also take books at home for studying for the approx duration of 2-3 weeks.
