Remarks :
NIT Durgapur being an institute of national importance made me choose this college over others. It is a Tier 1 college, which made me choose it over many others. The college is in my home state helped in terms of rank, as well as climate and food habits. Counseling and choice filling is possible online, and we have to report to the institute to confirm our seat. The ambiance, hostel life, student societies, and fests play a major role in shaping the student for his/her future.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum is good, and so are the faculty members, who give efforts in teaching, and giving us the study materials and reference books. Exams are conducted timely, and studying sincerely will surely fetch you good marks.
Internships Opportunities :
The college has a tie-up with CERN, Switzerland, and sends some students for their summer internship. Some of them are also selected for DAAD, Germany. Also, the students can opt to intern from Canada, the US, and Singapore. Apart from these, they can do their internship from IITs, IISc, IISER, etc. A CGPA of at least 8 has to be maintained. For CERN and DAAD, the students need to be in the top scorer's list, ie. a CGPA of around 9.
Placement Experience :
Campus placements start from the 7th semester onwards. In 2020, 116 companies came for recruitment, and 506 offers were given. Infosys, Capgemini, PwC, Qualcomm, Samsung, JCB, Alstom, Cognizant, and ZS Associates were some of the companies that visited. 634 students participated, and 456 students were placed. There were 50 double job offers. The highest CTC offered was 33 LPA, and the average CTC was 9.09 LPA. The placement percentage was 71.92 %. I plan to work after getting the degree.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The online semesters required us to pay the fees in two installments, along with hostel fees (paid together if offline semester). The fees are approximately 70000 to 75000 per semester, and fee waivers are available for the economically weaker sections. Jobs are good, and many companies come for interviews. Most of our seniors got placed in good companies.
Campus Life :
There are many student societies, or clubs, which a student can join as per his or her interest. The library has many books available, as per the need of the students. Classrooms are airy and well furnished. Sports activities are compulsory for 1st year, and there is a list of activities they can choose from. The annual techno-management fest, Aarohan (in February), is the 2nd largest of its whole kind in eastern India. Spanning 4 days, it encompasses a series of workshops, talks by famous people, games, music and dance performances, and a DJ night (with famous bands). It is conducted by Team Aavishkar. The cultural fest, NITYamini is organized in April each year. SPIC MACAY NIT Durgapur Chapter organizes a fest named Virasat (in February), to portray the culture of India. It encompasses workshops, movie screenings, and music and dance performances. The Literary Circle conducts a fest called Verve (in March), with NITMUN and prom being the main attraction.
Hostel Facilities :
The rooms have a chair and a table for each student and a shelf or almirah to keep things. The meal quality is good, and it is provided 4 times a day. There is a coupon system, one can pay for the meal he/she wants to have, ensuring less wastage of food and flexible choices. After fee payment and registration, one has to report to the fresher's hostel. A form has to be collected from the matron, filled up, signed, and submitted, along with the hostel fees. In case someone is unable to pay the hostel fees that day, it can be paid the next day. Hostels are affordable and required for students coming from other states.
