Remarks :
The pros of AEC are that it provides a wide range of branches for pursuing BTech, which are not available in other colleges, and also other amenities within the reach, as AEC is situated in the metropolitan, Guwahati City. Cons are not as such, but the boys and girls hostel ratio is 7:1, hence accommodation for girls becomes a little problem in the 1st year, though it gets resolved after that. The admission process is based on the Assam CEE examination score. While going for the selection of colleges, we need to give our preferences, i.e; the branch along with the college in sequence, based on which we are allotted according to the vacancy. Scoring a high rank gives you more assurance of getting the most preferred branch. There are total 7 government engineering colleges in Assam, as follows- 1.AEC 2.JEC 3.BBEC 4.JIST 5.BVEC 6.GEC 7.DEC. AEC is considered to be one of the best colleges in Assam, it is the first preference for pursuing B.Tech for almost all.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I am currently pursuing B.Tech in Civil Engineering from AEC, and I chose Civil Branch cause I love it. The foremost reason for Choosing Civil was because that my father is an Executive Engineer, from the Civil department itself. And to be mentioned, Civil is one of the most demanding branches for government jobs in Assam, and too in the foreign sectors. I am not much sure about The faculty: student ratio, qualification of the faculties, review teaching methods, and conduction of timely exams, as I am appearing for my 1st semester currently, which went in the lockdown itself and we have not attended any offline classes yet. But according to the previous records, the faculties the good, with a pretty good number of teachers in each department, and too, includes guest faculties as well. Major exams were conducted as mid-sem and end-sem exams, and class tests and assignments were being given within the semester period.
Internships Opportunities :
The college provides at least 3 internships to all students. Also, many other companies come to college and provide internships. online internships are also done by the students of this college. College faculties help the students and advise them about these.
Placement Experience :
Placements are for 4th-year students. That is, students in the 4th year become eligible for going for placements, and according to previous records, AEC provides no. of placements to students, and from these, students are selected for different posts. This year, for the post of Assistant Engineers, all 33 students are selected from AEC.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The annual fees of AEC are 11,000/year, though this year, we were exempted from the admission fees as the Assam government decided to waive off admission fees at universities, colleges and higher secondary schools in the state in the wake of the hardships and loss of income in families due to coronavirus (COVID-19) and lockdown. Being a 1st-year student, we are not yet been provided with any kind of financial assistance, cause we are not required to. But pretty much sure, to receive such kinds further.
Campus Life :
Every year annual fest of AEC, 'Pyrokinesis' is conducted in the month of February, and this year, because of the pandemic, the fest was not held. But, it might be conducted in the month of May or June, if not any further restrictions are imposed. This is the fest, of which every student eagerly keeps on waiting. We have a library in the main AEC administrative building, which consists of myriads of book. We are also provided with a library card, so as to bring books whenever required. The basic amenities, which are required for a classroom are new benches, large boards, fans and dice for the teacher to present to us, and these are all present in AEC, well-furnished. AEC provides you with a number of fields for your talent to be presented, be it sports or co-curricular activities. It consists of a drama club, jam club, photography club, nature club and a lot more, to develop and bring out the hidden talents of students.
Hostel Facilities :
For 1st-year students, dormitories are provided, consisting of 6-12 students, as there is only 1 girls hostel. From the 2nd year onwards, we are provided with rooms, consisting of 2-3 students. The dormitories are nice, having a bed and table for one student, and 3-4 racks to keep the baggage. The meal is quite good and is freshly prepared and served. Breakfast is provided between 7-9 with different items including bread, chowmein, fried rice, poori, rajma, etc. Lunch is provided between 12-2, with rice and veg items. Dinner is given between 9-10, with egg, fish, chicken, paneer on different days. Hostel dormitories are provided based upon the rank of the student in CEE, and local students of Guwahati are not allotted in the first until the students from far places get a bed booked in the Dormy. The admission fees for a hostel is 11,000, paid one time only, for 4 years, security money 2000, and mess dues 2000 rps every month.
