Remarks :
Here your technical subjects like Basic engineering subjects will definitely improve but you won't be able to read all the chapters of class 12th science. For taking admission in SLIET for the course of Diploma, you have to complete your class 10th. In the month of April, form filling for the entrance test in SLIET named SET -1 gets started. In that exam, the questions are asked from Physics Chemistry Biology Maths and English up to class 10th standards. This college is best for those students who want to come in the technical field earlier i.e completing their class 10th studies rather than 12th. This college is a centrally funded institute that's why the ad for entrance test comes in newspapers every year. I preferred the newspaper for all notifications. Right now the institute has its own website sliet.ac.in here you can find every information and notification regarding admission as well course offered by the institute. Institute has many groups and societies for personality development.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I choose a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering because this institute has a huge amount of tools and machinery which is way more than many NITs of India. There is a mentor for every 5-6 students. If you are facing any problem regarding academic as well as in the hostel, you are free to meet or contact them at any time. There is also a separate session between the student and their respective mentor every Saturday 1 hour before lunch. Most subject faculty are PhD holders and very few teachers doing MTech. Faculty are quite familiar with students. Since Diploma students are the most junior students of the college that's why faculty always ready to help. Every year an academic calendar is provided and on the basis of that calendar, all exams and activities take place. It is not very hard to pass the semester exams because the question is mostly asked from the topic which is thoroughly discussed in the classroom.
Internships Opportunities :
There is mainly two internship program provided by the college named as In House training and Industrial training. In house, training is provided for 14 days. In this training, the student has to work and learn about the tools and machinery available in the college. Industrial training is for 1 month. In this student have to apply in various companies for training purposes and out of those companies the company which has selected the student for training purpose, their students have to work and learn about hte various tools and machinery used in that company for various operations.
Placement Experience :
After the completion of the 5th semester, students become eligible for campus placement. Many big companies like Mahindra, Vardhan, TAATA motors etc as well as local companies like Chima Boilers come for campus placement. The average package offered by companies to Diploma holders is about 2.5 lakhs annually. The highest package for a Diploma holder is 6lakh to date. About 5-10% of students get placement while most of the students prefer B.Tech for the job so that they could get more package. I decided to go for government jobs rather than taking a placement in private companies.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The fees for every semester is about Rs.8500 here hostel room charges are also included. The mess bill is taken separately every month. The mess charge is also very minimal i.e. Rs2400 only. While I was persuing my course at that time there was no hike in semester charge. But the mess charge got hiked because the mess was on a contract basis that's why the contractor asked for extra charges and thus mess charge became Rs2400 from Rs2100. The Institute gives scholarship to those students who got top 2 ranks in their respective during entrance tet of the institute. Scholarship of Rs 2500 is also given to Top 2 students who have got highest marks in a calendar year.
Campus Life :
There is mainly 2 big fests are being conducted by the institute. The first one is Science fest i.e Techfest and the second one is Cultural fest ie Madhuram. In Techfest many technical activities such as robowar, truss load, water rocket, drone race etc activities take place. In cultural fest there are cultural activities such as singing, dancing, drama etc takes place. The institute has a very huge library named as a central library, there all the books of technical as well as non Technical subject are available in more than enough quantity. You can complete your whole course by issuing books from the library rather than buying from the market. Institute has its own Sports teams for many sports. There are many inter hostel as well as inter college sports event takes place.
Hostel Facilities :
The room provided to students has more than enough size. In a single room, there are 3 students. The hostel provides A Bed, A Chair and A Wardrobe separate for every student. Every room has a separate balcony for every room. There is 2 bathroom on every floor and every bathroom consists of 6 Washroom and 6 Toilets. The meal quality of the mess is average but if you talk about the menu then it looks like a great meal. The ingredients used in the mess are being checked by the mess committee on a regular basis but the meal is provided are of average quality. There is 10 boys hostel, every year you have to change the hostel. The registration is done at the starting of every even semester. Many rooms and hostels are available outside the gate of the college campus. You can easily get rooms in those PG's at reasonable rates. But the main corn is you can't get mess facilities in those PG.
Interview Experience :
For entrance to the institute, you have to give a written test which is conducted in the month of May, every year by the institute. The exam form has to fill in the month of April. The exam comprises MCQ questions asked from the subject English Physics Chemistry Biology and GK of class 10th level. For taking admission you must have to complete your education of class 10th without any backlog. There is no Group Discussion or interview is taken by the institute for admission purpose.
