Remarks :
The location (my hometown) and the availability of seats in CSE at other colleges based on my score were the major factors involved in this decision. Additionally, I had heard good reviews from people who had studied here.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course curriculum isn't as up to date as I'd like, with the Computer Science field evolving continuously, but there are some improvements taking place yearly. There was enough industrial exposure for us by giving us ample opportunities to get selected for an internship by companies visiting campus, for a 2 month internship. And finally, as is the case with every university, there were some great faculty members while some not as much.
Internships Opportunities :
I interned at Fidelity Investments as a Software Engineering Intern in the summer of 2020. The stipend was 40k Rs per month. To get this internship, I had to sit through an online conputer-based test, a technical interview and finally, a HR interview.
Placement Experience :
In terms of placement, I feel VNIT is lacking due to major companies such as Microsoft not coming here despite going to other NITs of the same level. I feel that might be due to a lack of good coding culture in this college. Nonetheless, a decent amount of companies come for placements with a decent package, and it isn't that bad (just not up to the level of an NIT). AppDynamics, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Lowe's India, Credit Suisse, Fidelity are some of the companies that visit regularly. I can't talk much about the alumni network since I haven't used it much.
College Events :
I was highly involved in Technical and Cultural fests throughout my college life, and I do feel that they provided me with a great platform to develop myself. They are quite decent sized especially given the location of Nagpur where it is much more difficult to attract the crowd compared to the bigger cities. However, I will add that the environment around these fests can get toxic as the rest of the college students tend to hate these fests to sound "cool". Nonetheless, probably the best part of my college life has been organizing these events.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I believe Fee Remission for students who struggle financially is provided, however I'm not aware of these details due to not being in such a situation
Campus Life :
The sports facilities were decent and don't see the need to upgrade them much. Wi-fi in the labs and library is significantly faster compared to the hostels. The library and the labs (specifically CSE) seemed up to date to me, however library might need more copies of the same books.
