Vaishali's Review On St. Thomas College Of Engineering And Technology- [STC], Chengannur

Remarks :

Our college has a splendid library built in a area of 370 sq.m in which a total of 11,329 volumes are available. The libraries also have recorded videos of NPTEL course which is useful to improve the quality education of the students. The institution has fully air conditioned computer labs, LAN, licensed software, multimedia attachments & media etc which is meant to provide a healthy academic environment to the students.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course duration is four years divided into eight semesters. Through out these years we are taught about subjects such as electrical technology, structural analysis, basic electronics, engineering drawings & graphics, solid mechanics etc. This course gives us knowledge about the maintenance of construction works such as sewage plants, buildings, water treatment facilities etc.

Placement Experience :

The job roles offered to students were construction analyst, architect, business research officer, management trainee, assistant officer etc. Highest salary offered was 1 lpm and the average ranged from 30,000 to 40,000 per month. Companies such as TATA, Wipro, IBM, Deloitte etc visits are campus every year and recruit 80% of the students from our campus.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The tuition fees for the course is 50,000. Admission charges of 1000 needs to be paid separately. Total fees for one year is 61,000. The grand total for four years comes down to 2.11 Lakhs which is quite nominal and affordable.

Campus Life :

Our department conducts workshops such as Water conservation, Future technological changes in the Civil sector, Pollution control etc. Activities such as drama, food fest, dancing competition, pottery making, face painting, speaking, essay writing, singing etc along with national festivals are celebrated in our college so as to bring closer the students belonging to different states.

Admission :

The students should qualify KEAM. Other than that you need to pass class 12th with 50% marks in the science stream with mathematics, chemistry and physics as the compulsory subjects from a recognized board. 5% seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC. Merit list will be prepared according to the cut off and the closing ranks. My name was in the second merit list and I was called for a counselling session and granted admission.

Faculty :

The teachers are highly experienced and they regularly update their skills by organizing & attending refresher areas in their specialization. We are also provided with additional courses which help the students to cope up with the needs & requirements of the construction sector. Expert lecturers are invited regularly to provide us with valuable knowledge.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum contains a vast area of nursing aspects and they include OSKI as a new component of the nursing curriculum which prepares as well enough to face the job interviews ahead. But the time limit is so short that we find it difficult to complete the syllabus on time. As the syallabus has changed to semester system we are expected to write exams more frequently but that is good as it helps as to improve our writing skills.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Architecture is a tough and time taking course, the syllabus fine in the first three years but later on it becomes hectic. Maybe the syllabus can be reduced and I feel that five years is too long for architecture degree.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course mainly because of the job opportunities. There is plenty of teaching and non-teaching staff in the college. All the teaching staff has Mastered nursing and all are very talented teachers. The teaching method is lecturing and av aids are also used by the teachers like projectors. The exams are conducted after the completion of each unit. It's an average tough exam to score good marks. The only problem is that exams will be conducted daily and the personal behavior of some staff may vary from person to person.

I also planned to join LLM at central University or in Canada. In Canada there are many opportunities for LLB graduates.
