Remarks :
It was a good enough choice if one is concerned about the brand associated with the place of study. The professors were conscientious enough to impart quality education. Though it may not be considered to be among the top 4 or 5 colleges it was a good place where you get to meet hard working honest fellow students, with a nice campus where all Infrastructure was on offer and it actually allows one to explore ones strengths and decide what’s the best can be taken up for the future
Course Curriculum Overview :
The syllabus as set by the Anna University (to which the college is affiliated) was followed. It is not research driven. The faculty members are well qualified having earned either a doctorate or master’s degree in the corresponding area of their teaching. When I was studying, Dr. Paranjothi retired professor from Anna University was the college principal and he too took classes for a few subjects. Practice tests were held every month and it did help in inculcating discipline that would later help in my professional career. Industrial visits were arranged on an yearly basis
Placement Experience :
The placement in my college at that time was good. Around 70 percent of the students in my class found a job before completing the course. Many companies did visit the campus like Infosys, TCS, crompton and greaves, L&T infotechetc. Soft skills training’s were held and also special sessions were held to help prepare students for the kind of tests ( reasoning and quantitative) held during the placement drives
College Events :
Each department used to conduct a technical symposium every year. All other engineering colleges in Tamilnadu will be extended an invite and participate in the same. Similarly yearly cultural festivals will be held in a grandeur manner. Here again students from other institutes (especially from the colleges nearby come and enjoy)
Fee Structure And Facilities :
I had paid a yearly fee of Rs 50000 for each year. This will cover the course and infrastructure fee for two semesters. In addition we were charged a one time fee of 5000 for development. Exam fees to appear in the semester exams was charged additionally. To a large extent that I remember there was no fee-breakdown. The fee of 50000 was a regulated one overseen by Anna University to which our college was affiliated. Prescribed fee was not exceeded during any of the years of my stay
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
I had not opted for any scholarship or loans. If required loans could have been easily arranged as my college was a part of the esteemed SRM group of educational Institutions
Campus Life :
The gender ratio in my class was very less. There were about 6 girls in a class of 60 people. Through out the college I may peg it at 20 to 25 percent. Conducting student parties on campus was not something that was encouraged apart from the ones which were officially conducted. Each year a cultural secretary was elected and students were encouraged to take part in other extra curricular activities apart from studies. The sports infrastructure was good and we did have a big football ground and a cricket field. Students participated in annual sports event conducted for all the engineering colleges affiliated to Anna university called TIES. All the lab facilities were good ensuring enough instruments or computers were available to cater to all the students
Hostel Facilities :
I was a day scholar and don’t have much of an idea regarding the hostel facilities. From what my friends had told the facilities were ok and there was the option to enroll for a regular hostel or an hostel with additional facilities for which the charges were higher
Alumni/Alumna :
When I was a part of the college we didn’t have an active Alumni network. After passing out as well to the best of my knowledge we don’t have an active alumni network nor has the college reached out to be connected regularly
Admission :
I had got admission through centralised counselling held by Anna University after appearing for the now defunct TANCET. Score was calculated as an aggregate of Maths, physics, chemistry and entrance marks. I had chosen electrical engineering as this was supposed to be a challenging course and EEE was one of the circuit branches. The college is a part of the SRM group and that played a part in choosing the same
Faculty :
I found all the faculty members to be well qualified to teach the subjects they were teaching. Average age would be in the late thirties and early forties. The head of department was Dr. Kanagaraj who has done his doctorate in the Netherlands and had also worked with the Tamil Nadu electricity board before taking up his role at our college. All the staff members were passionate about teaching and did their best to share across their knowledge. All of them were easily approachable. A few of the staff members were members of IEEE And had also published papers in eminent journals
