Remarks :
I have opted this course as I wanted an uniform job and an adventurous one. Indian Maritime University and it’s affiliated colleges were approved by Director General Of Shipping. These affiliated colleges were providing Continuous Discharge Certificate and the fees for this course was comparatively lesser in this college than other affiliated colleges. The most important thing that drove me to this college was the atmosphere and the accommodation was for single cadet per room and not only that our college had a ship TS Meenakshi in which we used to do our Internship.
Course Curriculum Overview :
We were following the rules and regulations of Director General Of Shipping and our University. So any change in curriculum was intimates to the college by well in advance which kept us updated. We were provided with port visit in every semester so that we can get to know about ships better. The faculties were good but the limelight of the college are the instructors who have a great practical knowledge. Instructors were exceptionally good.Faculty whom I admire is Mr Ananda Das ( chief engineer) Mr Rajmohan ( chief engineer) who had a strong foundation knowledge on the basics and core of the subject.
Internships Opportunities :
Internship is done inside our campus as we are having a ship inside our campus. T S Meenakshi is operated every Saturday and interns get an opportunity to overhaul the machinery’s.
Placement Experience :
The companies visited our college are Pacific International Lines, Seateam, XT shipping and many other. Placement opportunity is there but getting placed depends on how the cadet performs in the interview. So it all depends on the cadet. From the last batch of 27 cadets around 22 of them got placed and 17 of them got placed through campus placement. 15 of them were selected by Seateam. College is offering more courses so there are job opportunities in that also. We are having a placement coordinator who is in Mumbai who helps us getting companies to our college.Alumni network of this college is comparatively too good as an ex cadet has already been a principal of our institution and some ex cadets are faculties also.
College Events :
Our college used to conduct maritime week in which different competitions were there regarding technical and non technical and cultural events were also there in which the cadets show cases their talents. Our college never conducted any fest where the other marine colleges were allowed to participate. These programs were confined to our campus.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
In whichever semester you get more than 80% they provide you a scholarship of rupees 5000 and many other scholarship schemes are also there. There is other schemes for new joiners who scored good in their 12 class. They are cadets who study in Education loan so facilities are there for that also.
Campus Life :
The infrastructure of our campus is really admiring. Acres of land planted with trees and vegetation going from which vegetables were provided for the preparation of mess food. Sports facilities were also good but we were not allowed to compete with any other colleges even to our neighbouring college which is in the same campus, so basically they never support sports activities neither the sportsmen. Library was quite a big and can accommodate atleast 75 to 80 students having a wide range of magazines which are Marine related and books for sure. Wifi facility is there but half of the time we can say that it’s under servicing. The equipment in the labs were quite appealing.
Hostel Facilities :
The hostel had wifi facility provided with single room accommodation. We never faced any difficulties in our hostel. TV was there in every alternate floor and water coolers were there in every alternate floors. Hostel room were pretty good and spacious for a single guy provided with a cupboard, table and a chair. As this is a compulsory residential course there is no point in searching for any other rentals.
