Student's Review On Kerala Agricultural University, College Of Horticulture Vellanikkara, Thrissur

Remarks :

I wanted to serve the lower levels of the society, also I wanted to a job easily. So I took the course. This college was the best in Kerala, within the university compound. So it is easy for many purposes.

Course Curriculum Overview :

It is a 4 yr course. The syllabus is not good as it is not updated well and practicals and interaction with farmers are very rare in first ever yrs. But final yr has very good exposure with Rural Agricultural Work Experience and Experiential learning in which we get exposure to various farmers, methods, institution and also gets the agri business skills. After UG we can opt for PG, AgriMBA etc. There is an All India Tour (compulsory) in the curriculum of around 1 month. Lab facilities are quite good. Fields for practical are available (rice, tapioca, pulses, tuber, millets etc are done by the students all by themselves. Which is fun and knowledgable)

Placement Experience :

Agricultural officer, farm officer, food safety officer, research fellow in institutes, assistant, kisan call centre,PO in Bank - Bsc qualification Private jobs also available like in FACT, etc Lecturer, scientist - Phd qualification

College Events :

The theory study curriculum was boring. But practicals we're wonderful and fun. There are lots and lots of arts and games throughout the year. The intercollegiate arts last for 5 days throughout the night. The all India tour is the most loving memory. Besides there are other tours also. The arts and sports also go beyond the state, ie, inter agri which was held in North last yr. The inter collegiate arts has almost 200 events with 8 colleges participating. Very memorable. The course is easy to study and after the course we can go in varied directions

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

There are not much loan facilities. E grant and ch Muhammad koya scholarship can be availed by the eligible students. The course fees is not so high as it is government college. The all India tour fees may be given by the teachers Association to the needy students.

Campus Life :

There is college library which has quite good amount of books. Besides there is a massive 4 floor university library nearby which is so so good( the best part of the campus). There are labs with quite good facilities. There is a basketball court, volleyball court, football ground(there are a lot of sports events in the campus), there is a good college auditorium, a university central auditorium nearby( arts fests are the best), there is a college canteen and the campus itself is very green and big almost 400 acre. There is wifi in hostels. Hostels are nearby. Clean. Men's hostel also has table tennis and other indoor game facilities where indoor games competition is held. There is AC in 2 classrooms and seminar Hall.

Hostel Facilities :

Hostel rooms are quite spacious. 1st yr it will be 6 persons per room. Later yrs it will be just 4 person per room. The hostel is clean and there are many bathrooms. Wifi is available in both male and female hostels. The food is clean safe and quite good. There is TV room cum reading room( many memories come from it). Mess is inside the hostel which was recently renovated. New hostel in in construction. After its construction hostel availing will be simple. But now since the number of seats were increased it is a bit of dilemma.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have decided to join this course by learning about the scope of Agriculture. The world cant live without food and it indicates the neverending and wide scope in the field of agriculture development and research. The curriculum will make us ready to face the real world. The teaching methods need to improve by increasing on farm experiences rather than sitting in a class

Placement Experience:

From the last or 8th semester, students become eligible for placement. Big agricultural companies come to take campus placements. Highest annual package is 6 to 7 lakh per annum. Me after completing the degree, gonna apply for pursuing MBA in Agriculture and enter the business line.
