Nipun Kumar's Review On National Institute Of Technology - [NIT], Durgapur

Remarks :

NIT Durgapur was the only NIT college based on my rank and including my reservation that I could get a seat and that too in one of the Core branches. Also, it's proximity to my home town helped me make the decision.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The syllabus is alright. Teaching is not so special. As of now we have got none industrial exposure. Faculties are generally quite old and quite egoistic which makes things difficult. However, some good faculty are there too, like Professor Amiya Kumar Samanta.

Placement Experience :

Placement are not very good. Placement officers are ill treated by authorities. Some basic companies do come like NOVARTIS, MICROSOFT, etc. Some good internships are also like ONGC, Blackbucks, etc. Entrepreneur cell is good

College Events :

Generally we have quite a lot of fests. We have a tech fest AAROHAN which provides diverse participation opportunities. We have NITYAMINI which was earlier called RECSTACY which is quite enjoyable for all. Apart from that, clubs have their own fests like LC conducts VERVE which is awesome. Also SPIC MACAY conducts VIRASAT which is okayish.

Campus Life :

Sports facilities are good. But the rules to use them are quite stiff. Wifi is quite poor in hostels and none in academic buildings. Library is good but available books are redundant. Labs are okayish.

Hostel Facilities :

Its okayish but depends highly on the hostel one gets. For first year boys get HALL 11 whuch is quite new and so it's good. Girls get HALL 7 which is not so good. Second year onwards Boys gets HALL 1 or 2 or 3. They are worst in the whole college. Girls get HALL 13 which is great

Placement Experience:

Students from 7th semester onwards are elegible for campus placements. Some of the companies that visits for placements are Google, microsoft, amazon, pwc, TI, accenture, PPEL, etc. A total of 920 recruiters were there which offered 753 offers to the students and out of them around 75-78% were placed. The highest placement package was offered by microsoft for 51 lpa as PPO to 14 students and the role was IDC. The average package is around 7.5 lpa. I am planning to appear in GATE exam and go for masters in IITs after completion of my degree where i will be persuing my further studies in transportation engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.

College was good in terms of studies and many more. But now it fails in giving placement. Most of the students are still unemployed. Only 30% of the students are placed from college. Others have to find there own jobs.
