Remarks :

Nothing bad to say and had a wonderful time there. The college management was always there for us. They took care of our needs every time. and I would say that if anyone wants to join merchant navy they should try their luck with TRAINING SHIP RAHAMAN.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Basically there were two ways to do this course. Either you can opt for diploma in nautical science leading to B. sc in nautical science or you can directly go for B. sc in nautical science. There's a major difference between these two courses. In Diploma you have to attend your college for 1 year. In that 1 year we had 2 semester. After finishing the college examination you get all your certificates and documents. Then Shipping companies takes your interview. If get selected you have to do 18 months training onboard a ship. And if you opt for direct B. sc nautical science courses then you have to attend the college for 3 years where you will have 6 semesters followed by examinations every semester. Then you recieve all your certificates and documents. After that shipping companies takes your interview if you get selected you have to go for 1 year training on board. The difference between the 2 is the time duration and fees of the course and the B. sc certificate is give after 18 months of training in diploma course and directly after your 3 year B.Sc course ends. Diploma course have lesser fees in comparison to the B.Sc courses.

College Events :

There were many events which were held there at our colleges. Most of these events comprised of quizes, sports meets, sports day, national level sports activities. Most of these activities were related to sports as we have to be active in out job and fitness plays a major role in our job. You have to be fit for sea if you wamt to work on a merchant vessel. Our college used to go for the national sports meet which used to be help at MANET-PUNE. It was held at national level where colleges from All around India came and participated. And holding a national level sports certificate is another level of achievement.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

During my admission the fees was 3 lakh 50 thousand for diploma in nautical science. It covered everything from books to food and hostel charges. And for the Bsc programme it was 10 lakhs for 3 years. They had various mode of payment except upi because upi was not present in 2014. Rest all modes of payments were active NEFT, RTGS or through demand draft and checks and even at instalments. There were no additional fees and there was transparency at all stages of fees payment.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Yes the college offered scholarship opportunities the top 50 rank holders of the entrance examination. the average sum was 50000. So students have to pay a total fees of 300000 if the deduct the scholarship from the total fees.

Campus Life :

Campus life was amazing, everyone wants to go back to those days when they were in college. As of now we have very less female candidates. The same thing was there in our college. We had around 20 girls in our whole campus. They had their separate hostels which was far away fr the boys hostel. We used to have parties every night after 10pm.

Hostel Facilities :

Yes I opted for hostel. For this course there was no other option available. The only choice was to live in the hostel because of the study schedule of the college. Hostel rooms were nice and cozy. There were 2 different types of rooms they were arranged alternatively. 1st room will be students and other room for 2 students. These rooms were interconnected and had common toilets nice clean toilets. No troubles at all. Hot and cold water is available all the time. Food was served 3 times a day and tea and snacks 3 times a day.

Alumni/Alumna :

College seniors were very helpfull and always ready for help. Let it be sports or studies they will help us with everything. They took care of us like thier own brother.

Admission :

There was this senior of mine, Himanshu Joshi. Basically he was my classmate, but for some reasons I had to repeat my 11th standard so he became my senior. So during my 12th boards exams. He was the one who guided me. He told me to fill different forms and one of those was for merchant navy. As I was not interested in engineering and my friend Himanshu Joshi did the same course and through his guidance so it became easy for me to crack those entrance exams so I chose merchant navy as my carrier and its been 6 years since I passed out of my college and now presently and holding a ranking of 3rd officer on a merchant vessel.

Faculty :

Our faculties we respect them a lot. All of our faculties were retired captain. They spent all their life and time on ship and provided us with all the great knowledge which they had gathered all those years. We used to have 7 lectures a day from morning 8 to evening 4. Then a self study class at night from 8pm to 9pm. As I stated earlier that our facilities were retired captains so most of them were 60+. Their level of experience were on other level, even though I have served the shipping industry for more than 5 years I have to say I haven't gained 10 % of what they knew that time. and yes they help relevant certification, if you are a captain you can't enter any shipping College directly for the purpose of teaching. For that they have to qualify the extra masters examination which is hard to crack.

All the students here get placed so it is 100% placement here at tolani maritime institute. After my degree I'll go for cadet ship for 18 months with my company.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose DNS(Diploma in nautical science) because this is the best I found because it gives you a training period for sure and it leads to your job further if you perform well in your further exams. There are many more benefits to it.

Placement Experience:

For my course the placement is already done and students are pre-placed hence we don't need to attend any interviews and written test after we have joined the course. As far as package is considered the package is quite high. The percentage of students thus placed is 100% as they are pre-placed. After getting the degree we need to go on the ship for training.

i want to join Merchant Navy. It becomes my dream. But unfortunately, I'm not from science background. I did my 12th in arts stream and Graduation in Bachelor of Arts. My age is 23years. Unfortunately i got aware about this job later when i was in college. Now i think I should follow my dream so i decide to give On Demand Exam of 12th (PCM) through NIOS. So that i will be eligible for BSC nautical science or DNS. Can you please tell me, is this good decision or not? And is NIOS eligible in TS Rahaman?

The lower and upper age limit to apply for merchant navy is 17 years and 25 years respectively. You must also have passed Class XII examination from a recognized board with at least 60% marks taking PCM subjects. Students who have passed from NIOS are also eligible to apply for merchant navy. Training Ship Rahaman also accepts students who have passed from NIOS board.
