NIT Durgapur at a Glance

Remarks :

In my view, NIT Durgapur is a very nice and cool place to carry out your graduation. Apart from the studies, you can have a lot fun visiting places around the city. The management is also very helpful, and if you have any problem with the management, you can always go to the Student's Gymkhana. They will always listen to you.

College Events :

The college hosts a lot of events scattered over the academic year :- 1) Aarohan - The Techno Management Fest 2) NitYamini ( Formerly Known as Recstacy)- The Cultural Fest 3) Verve- The Literary Fest 4) Matribhasa Divas - By NSS These are the biggest fests in the college in terms of participation and Budget. Aarohan is East India's second largest Techno Management Fest after Kshitij, IIT Kharagpur. Students from different colleges participate in our fest in events like Robowar, B-Plan, ISTE scientific paper presentations, etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is very affordable and is based on the income level of the guardians. There are no hidden fees. There are some things which require extra money like Transcript issuance, MESA, etc. Also you will have to pay the Mess fees in the beginning of the Semester. For tuition fees : Income level >5 lpa: Full fees 1 lpa < Income level < 5 lpa : Concession granted Income level < 1 lpa: High Concession granted Also for SC/ST/PwD students: The fees is very low. In addition to this, many scholarships are also provided to the students.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

I didn't avail any scholarship or student loan. However for students requiring loans, the State Bank of India in collaboration with inside our college provides Education loan at very low or zero interest rates. Apart from that there are certain scholarships also from the college and some private firms( such as the O P Jindal scholarship) for low income level students which are based on Merit and scholarship exams.

Hostel Facilities :

Yes I have opted for hostel. Actually there is no choice, every student has to opt for hostel cause there are plenty of rooms. In 1st, 2nd, 3rd year, students stay in a shared room with 3 students per room. The condition of rooms is good, equipped with fans, tubelights and LAN/Wifi facilities. Also in case of any electrical faults, the maintenance is very quick. The washrooms are cleaned on a regular basis. In final year you get a single room. There is no hostel or Electricity charge. However Mess charges are there ( About 15,000 per semester).

Alumni/Alumna :

The Alumni network is very strong. People from our college are currently at very high posts in highly reputed private and government organisations such as Google, Microsoft, IISc, IITs, etc. And they regulary interact with us, the students. Of course our senior are the ones who help us the most. They are always ready to help and also have a lot of fun with us. From club seniors to departmental seniors, they help us with everything, be it notes, project work or referrals.

Admission :

In order to get admission to NIT Durgapur, or any NIT, you have to appear in the JEE MAIN examination which is conducted by CBSE. After the examination if you attain a decent rank, based on that you have do your choice filling on the JOSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). Then there will be several rounds of councilling. After the last round of councilling, whatever Branch and Institute has been allotted to you, that will be your final allotment. ( Since I wanted to study mechanical from the beginning due to my interest in Physics and Mathematics, I had given Mech as my first choice. I had a AIR of 26746 in JEE MAIN (Gen), and luckily I got the last seat in Mech Engg in NIT Durgapur under Home State.)

Course Curriculum Overview:

B.Tech in CSE is future proof and a very good course for IT sector jobs and I was always excited working in these companies, that's why I choose the course. There are 10-12 faculties present in every department. Each faculty is M.Tech qualified and Drs. Their teaching quality is very good. 4 internal theory and 2 Lab exams happen each semester. The questions are standard, regular, and sincere students can easily pass.
