Remarks :
SRM as a college is good for it's placements and the facilities it has, but it has more negatives to it than positives. The college teaches the same curriculum as a local college at much less cost, the college has so much crowd that you may end up having a problem with placements as there are a lot of people which decrease the quality of the process. I will rate the college as a 5/10.
Course Curriculum Overview :
Speaking Frankly of the course curriculum the courses are way behind today's world and to keep up with placements you will have to keep studying new technologies simultaneously with your academics. Exams are conducted every month in a 5 month semester, there will be a time you will be bored of the number of exams you give in a semester. The labs that are a part of the curriculum is made from the 2000's and is never updated. You will learn about obsolete technology which functions on Windows XP.
Placement Experience :
There are a lot of companies that visit the college for hiring students for internships and job offers. We have mass companies like TCS, CTS, Infosys and Wipro and also some high paying companies like Udaan, Microsoft, Amazon. The stipend varies from 10-12000 for Mass companies and goes about 45-50000 for Amazon and Microsoft. Microsoft has offered 41 lakhs to a student from our college and 4 have got into Udaan for 30 lakhs. Companies have a small problem with the way students lack proper knowledge as our curriculum lacks sufficient information we need to crack an interview. As for internship we have to look for internships on our own, but during your final semester a lot of companies come to take students as interns and then give them a permanent job on performance basis.
College Events :
The college has 2 huge events called AARUUSH which is a national level tech fest and MILAN which is the college's cultural fest. They always have good pro shows where people like Kenny Sebastian, Kanan Gill come for stand up comedy. There are music concerts from Bollywood playback singers(Vishal and Shekhar, Salim merchant) and chief guests like John Abraham, Shruti Hassan etc. Except these two huge events there are lot of small events which happen almost every day. Taking part in all these events is really a good experience and it will make your college life feel full of memories. You will learn a lot while organizing such events.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fees is really expensive is what I have felt for the past four year. My fees for 2,15,000 while the junior enrolled in the current year of 2019 is paying 2,45,000 for the same course I am currently doing. The hostel fees was 90,000 in my first year while it grew to 1,18,000 for the last year. The college is really Keen to earn Money and will not leave any penny it has an opportunity to take from you. They take money for exams fees which is not included in college fees. They demand for lab breakage fees. Also they have taken tuition fees for the last year where in you don't have classes in the last semester.
Fees and Financial Aid :
There are a lot of scholarships given to students on the basis of their rank in SRMJEEE. Student who have a rank in top 5 get 100 percent tuition fee waiver, while top 100 get 50% and top 5000 get about 10% wavier. Scholarship is also given to students who are board toppers in their states. Also students who come from sports quota have a good scholarship. Loans are not given from college's side you have to apply personally in a bank.
Campus Life :
We have good facility for sports. There are 2 huge football grounds, 3 basketball courts, 5 volleyball courts and 2 tennis courts. There are indoor sports like badminton, table tennis etc. There are a lot of road shows that take place for you to enjoy and meet new people. There is a good diversity of students from across the country and by the gender ratio we have more boys than girls. As per my department is concerned we have about 25 girls in a strength of 180 students. The lab facility are better than other institutes but still lack a lot of things. We have a lot of clubs and domains you can join as a fresher it will help you grow well.
Hostel Facilities :
On a scale of 1 to 10 I'll give the hostel a 3. The facilities are almost null, they give you a desk, chair, bed and a cupboard. Your hostel fees includes mess fees too. The mess food is good as compared to a lot of colleges in India, but once you start eating it daily you will feel the food quality getting worse. I find 1,18,000 to be really costly for a hostel for this type. The maintenance work is never done on time, the sports equipment are either not available or broken. The hostel rooms are available for a basis of double and triple sharing. I will suggest you to take a PG it will cost you cheaper to your hostel.
Alumni/Alumna :
The alumni network is really good and we have some passionate seniors who I have met in the journey and will always been there when I need them for any help. There is no case of ragging and the college has strict action against defaulters. The seniors guide you when it comes to selecting teachers, courses that you opt for your upcoming semester. They also help out in the clubs to learn how the club will function under your leadership when they give you their position. Alumni students also organize an internship fair in which you can register for free and come in contact with companies that are hiring interns.
Admission :
I was looking for computer science courses for my undergrad and that's what made me land in SRM. I had giving the entrance test, which I was able to clear fairly well. I had a choice of taking either IT or software engineering which is a part of computer science stream. Out of which I Choose Software as my interest was more inclined towards coding and not in communication systems. They called me accordingly on basis of my rank for a counseling where we have to book a seat in the college with the choice of your department. After which we paid an advance and the process was over.
Faculty :
The faculty is qualified with PhDs and they teach subjects of their domain. But when it comes to the quality of teaching the teachers know nothing. We don't understand a word they say. More over we have to do a lot of googling and YouTubeing in order to understand the lectures by our own. They don't even help you for your projects and labs. They will tell you about the theory fairly well but when it comes to labs they don't know how to practically implement them on a system. Also at times we feel the teachers are not interested in teaching any subject.
