Remarks
I only have postive thoughts about that campus. The campus helped me to remove my pre-occupations, inhibitions, fear etc. It gave a lot of memorable moments, large number of friends. The most special thing about the college is those memorable friendships with the faculties whos understand students very well.
Course Curriculum Overview
In the first 2 years, there was 6 lecture hours. Classes began at 9:30 am. Two hours of two days of a week were allotted for practical labs. In the next two years, one more hour was added with certain changes in the time schedule. There are 6 subjects in all semesters except the 8th semester where it is 4. There are end-semester examinations for all theory papers conducted by Kerala Technological University. The examinations are normally of two hours. Usually odd sem exams are in December and even sem fall in May. An examination fee of 200 for each subjects along with Rs 500 extra have to be paid to the university. Apart from that two internal assessment series are conducted by the college. The marks of these assessments along with assignments and seminar marks are cumulated as the Internal marks. Internal marks of 22.5 out of 50 are required to be eligible to write end-semester examinations. Minimum 17 marks are required to be eligible to write supplementary examination. Students with lesser marks have to attend summer courses to compensate the marks. Research support is provided by faculties for interested students. Marathon university exams are always hectic. But the internal assessments are more relaxed.
Placement Experience
They college doesn't have an applaudable placement. Google conducted a workshop. Siemens came for civil engineering students. There were automobile companies. Many of them were service centers. Stipends began at Rs 5000 and reached around Rs 20000.
College Events
The college has real lot of events. Events of an academic year starts with a Freshers day. Union elections will be conducted as a next followed by Union Inauguration. The union will conduct games and sports events. An wonderful Arts fest is conducted every year. Apart from this the 4 associations, 3 Clubs and NSS volunteers conduct their own programs. Apart from Mechanical and Automobile branches, all other branches have a girl majority. Girls are always encouraged in academic and co curricular activities. There is no kind of religious and caste based discriminations.
Hostel Facilities
I am a day scholar. Hostel rates are around Rs 6000 per month. Hostel rooms are all neat and well maintained. Food is provided from the college canteen. Around 6 students lived in one hostel room. There are sufficient seats in hostel and can handle a large number during exams.
Alumni/Alumna
Association of Malabar College of Engineering and Technology Alumni has one of the best alumni football teams in UAE. They conduct a huge meetup every year. They are very active in the college events and are always ready to help at short notice. They have also sponsored many students from low financial backgrounds.
Admission
It was in 2016. I hadn't appeared for the state engineering entrance exam (KEAM). So the only way to enter an engineering course was NRI quata. I heard of an education fair in my nearby city Thrissur conducted by a leading newspaper in Kerala. There I found out about the colleges with NRI entry. There were few and one of them was my college. They main reason to choose it was the marginal difference in the tution fee compared to others. I filled out a form there and was asked to visit their agency office near my house for briefing. I paid a registration fee of Rs 10000 in the agency office. There I was given a date in July to visit the college. That day all the students were given an orientation class in which the chairman of the college talked for a while. I submitted my tenth and twelfth certificates along withith TC and conduct certificate. Academic orientation classes continued for the next one week. After that on August 1st, 2016 I started my BTech life.
Faculty
Faculties of the Mechanical Engineering department are young and vibrant. They are all well qualified and always ready to help. Some stick to the conventional dictation method while others resort to PowerPoint presentations and interactive sessions. Most of them are well experienced with days spent at colleges in and out of Kerala. They have a good grasp over the university examinations questions and focuses on them during lectures.
