Remarks :
The college is an open ground to fulfill the curiosities that the students have. The curriculum sometimes get really stressful and competitive, especially during the time of the Juries. Overall, it is an amazing experience altogether with a lot of things to learn in hand.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The college offers 6 different UG courses namely, 1) Accessory Design. 2) Textile Design. 3) Knitwear Design 4) Fashion Communication 5) Fashion Design 6) Fashion Technology The courses are well versed and helps in embedding students with the required design as well as critical thinking. The courses are not just theoretical, but mostly practical based. There are suitable machine labs for each design course open for student's experimentation. The college believes in providing more practical than the theoretical knowledge. The courses also offer certain cluster programmes and Internships to give the students the idea of how the industry functions. As a Student of NIFT, I am really satisfied with my subjects and faculties.
Internships Opportunities :
College gives you the option by the end of 3rd year to intern at a company related to your field. It depends upon the student as to where they are supposed to intern. The internships provided could be anywhere all around India. I have just completed my second year thus have no such experience of an internship yet, but my Seniors are paid 5-6thousand RS as stipend for a month.
Placement Experience :
College placements are really nice with a lot of companies visiting the campuses. Students also prefer to be privately placed for better income and job opportunities. Us as Design Students get opportunities to freelance( as graphic designers or photographers) during the college time only.
College Events :
Annual College fest(Spectrum) is the most exciting college festival filled with different activities and games. A lot of colleges visit during that time and be a part of out fest. Other than that, different days such as Environment day, Independence day etc have been celebrated collaborating them with fun activities.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee structure is really feasible as compared to the other design Private colleges. It gets even more affordable if the student chooses to get the accommodation in the hostel provided by the college only.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Scholarships and loans are offered to the students under a certain income. The formalities for the same are done in the college itself. The scholarship is dependent over the performance of the student in the last semesters.
Campus Life :
The college has certain groups and clubs that continues to organize certain games and activities open to all the students. These activities are taken as stress Busters and also help the students to know the people of other departments better.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostels are nicely built with proper ventilation and space for the students to work. They just provide you with very limited furniture. The food of the mess sometime becomes an issue as the quality isn't that good. But as a student, I would suggest that living in the hostel is much better than living somewhere out as we would have a lot of stuff to carry back and forth.
Alumni/Alumna :
Senior students have always been supportive. A lot of them have visited the college to share their experiences. Some of them who have opened up their own branches are open in offering internships to the students who continue to study.
Exam Structure :
This is a 4 year course, each year is divided into 2 semesters thus making a total of '8 semesters'. Each semester has different subjects, that are evaluated at the end through the process of "Juries". Written exams are comparitively less.
Admission :
The college admission is a 3 step process- 1) The first step is to give an entrance exam that usually happens in the month of February. This exam is of 6 hours divided into 2 parts- GAT( General aptitude test) and CAT( Creative aptitude Test) 2) On the basis of this result some students get qualified for the second round which is the situation test. In this test the students are supposed to be present at the chosen NIFT centres and create a small model by using the given materials. 3) After the situation test, Students are then provided with Ranks on the basis of which they are supposed to choose their college and courses during the Counselling round.
Faculty :
Being a part of such government institution I am happy with the faculty provided to us. They are really supportive and open to the new ideas students have to offer. We are also visited by certain guest faculties from time to time for special lectures or programmes.
