Remarks :
The course is best suited for candidates who are interested in a career in the HR domain and also a management aspirant. Some drawbacks of this course are that IITKGP is not a traditional B-School and so the exposure of this course is a little less compared to other institutions. Also, there is no cap set for the minimum CTC offered by MHRM at IITKGP.
Course Curriculum Overview :
The course is mainly focused on enabling a candidate to become a successful HR and equips a student with all relevant skills and abilities for that matter. Exams are conducted on a semester basis where there is one mid-sem exam and one end-sem exam.
Placement Experience :
Every batch gets 100% placement every year. The batch sizes are generally small (around 20-25 people) and there are ample opportunities to get into a renowned organization until one messes up badly. The summer internship opportunity is provided to every student by the placement committee of the course and also the final placements are handled by the placement committee only, teachers take no part in the placement of this course. The average summer internship package is around 60K for 2 months and the average CTC offered during final placement is around 10.5lakh with the highest salary offered being 14lakh INR.
College Events :
There are a variety of events celebrated at IIT KGP, the most spectacular being KSHITIJ. The HR department has its own events such as HRidhan (held during kshitij), ULLEKHAN (article writing competition), and many other events during the entire course period. Also, all the festivals of Indian culture are celebrated at IITKGP.
Fee Structure And Facilities :
The fee for the entire course is around 5lakh INR including hostel fees and food lodging facilities. 3lakh is the total tuition fee required for this course (included in the 5lakh amount). The course is pretty cheap compared to other similar courses offered in different B-Schools around India considering the ROI factor.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
The loan facility is available from SBI. Being an IIT, a candidate will not have problems getting clearance for a loan for this course. No scholarship is provided to any candidate. I, personally did not avail of any loan facility for this course.
Campus Life :
There are ample opportunities for extracurricular activities at the IITKGP campus. Gym, swimming, badminton, cricket, football, tennis, yoga, weight lifting, martial arts are some of the sports that are taught at the technology student's gymkhana and every IIT student can avail of these facilities for a nominal fee.
Hostel Facilities :
There are 21 hostels among which anyone can be allotted to a candidate. The hostels are generally equipped with basic facilities and are generally comprised of twin-sharing rooms. Each hostel has its own food canteen where breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner are provided daily. There are ample options for vegetarians as well as non-vegetarian candidates.
Alumni/Alumna :
There is a vast alumni network expanding over 250+ candidates who passed out from this course since 1982. The alumni make frequent visits to the campus and interact with current students to inform them about the corporate scenario. They are also invited for guest lectures and annual alumni meet event called Pratyavartan. The alumni help students to train better and also for final placements.
Admission :
The entrance exam for the MHRM course at IIT KGP is through CAT, after a candidate clears the exam he/she if shortlisted, has to sit for a WAT/PI round where written ability and personal interview of the candidate is carried out. Then through a screening process, the final merit list is published. Though the entire list is not visible, the selected candidates are sent mail through the email addresses they provided during registration.
Faculty :
As per the rules of the IIT board, all faculties have to be Ph.D. and the same applies here too. The faculties are adequately skilled and helpful while imparting quality education. Teachers generally bring PPT slides on their teaching topics and explain them in detail in class. Also, attendance is mandatory
