Distant education pros and cons

GS
1.3 /5

Remarks :

Only positive review I have is that it is affordable. Students from poorer communities gets a chance to have a higher education because of this college. But, being a government college faculty behaviour is the worst. Exams never happen on time. Postpones even the smallest things for no reason.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Basically a bachelors degree can be obtained in 3 years. The distance education department also follows the same principle. But exam structure is different, although 1 year is divided into 2 semesters which includes 6+6 = 12 main papers. Exams are conducted together. Which means you have to attend 12 subjects altogether.

Placement Experience :

There are no placement opportunities. Only courses are offered here. Jobs are not their concern. Certificate from this college is accepted everywhere. So, if you ever want a job, have to go find it at your own time and expense.

College Events :

The main reasons for celebration are Onam, Christmas, Pongal etc most religious festivals are celebrated by students and staff. Students are not insisted to come if they are not intrested. Being a distant education University, students face difficulty reaching the college from long distances.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Not at all expensive, very feasible. Getting a bachelor degree will cost one about under 15000, that's for the entire course. Books, exam fee, lab, tutoring etc all included. Exam fees cost about 1000 per semester.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Scholarship is given to outstanding students who perform brilliantly in their academic career, and for those students who belong to the backward communities. Loan facility is not needed because the fee structure is very affordable.

Campus Life :

Sports activities are nonexistent. Labs for subjects are given so that students understand the basics of the subject. No further help is provided. They will recommend a good tutorial for those who have doubts.

Hostel Facilities :

Although hostel facility is available for kerala University, it is not provided for distant education. Because there is no need for students to attend class regularly, for a semester only 1 week of class is given. So no need for students to come regularly, hence no hostel.

Alumni/Alumna :

Senior students helps juniors in getting text books due to the incompetence of faculty. Texts take months to reach, maybe never. Personally I have not recived texts for 2nd and 4th semesters. If enquired, blames postal service.

Admission :

Pay via online. Submit certificates. Identity card and books get sent to you. Detailed address and ID proof must be submitted at the University office. University offers courses for those who are unable to afford or cannot join other colleges.

Faculty :

One of the worst and incompetent staff a college could hire. If asked for information regarding exams, assignments or even class schedule they respond by telling 'go ask someone else, they have not been informed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I'm a 3rd year BCom Taxation student. I don't think that some subjects are relevant for the course. Some subjects are not required in the future. From 5th sem onwards there is an open Course subject which we have to learn and pass the exam. The open Course subject that I have received is not based on the marks that I received in my previous semester exam. And in have to go to the office to change the subject of my like later on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My dream is to become a accountant. So I choose this bcom with computer application course. The course structure was very nice and we can understand easily. In my opinion do more practicals . This course is therotically oriented which is not good when we go for a job. So it is better to give more practicals than theory sections. Main reason I hated the college was the exams. The college put the exam without any time gap which was very annoying

They are providing the best placements from other college. In the 2nd year of our course first they give training to us and then they give internship programms . And in the third year they make us ready for our placements. They provide best company placement to us. They are not looking our marks for selection but the attitude towards them.

It is based on accounts and marketing etc. There is required faculty to guide students with a HOD which means the head of the department. Faculty are supportive and motivated. Teaching is done through using teaching methods and other using other technologies like projectors etc. Exams are conducted every 6 months in between the 3 years.
