Remarks :

The college is a highly politically active space. With the space being currently dominated by one of the many political thoughts, it can be rather discomforting for many. It is suggested that the applicant is aware and tolerant of diverse political thoughts.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is designed quite well. In the first few semesters, the courses are fixed and the electives are very few. However, in the second year, a lot of electives are available to choose from and the course comprises of electives largely.

Placement Experience :

The college does not promote the idea of 'education for placement'. Students are directed to take up jobs in grassroot organisations. This clearly impacts the offered pay scale during the placement process. Internships are not provided by the college but it wants its students to take up internships and APU provides enough support in getting internships at renowned organisations.

College Events :

Events are all organised and managed by the student body. 1. Unmukt: the annual festival. The event is quite low key and there is nothing grand about the event. 2. Aaghaz: the event promotes and celebrates the inquisitive spirit. There are several other events which are celebrated only if the student body plans to.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is quite feasible. With a wide range of financial scholarships for the students, the cost of living and of tuition is payable. Compared to other similar colleges, the fee is quite feasible.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Financial scholarships are available for students. Students who come from households that earn below a mark (around 4 lakh annually) are offered scholarships. This scholarship can range somewhere between 50% to 80% of the tuition fee and hostel fee.

Campus Life :

The college has a decent computer lab which has pretty decent computers and licensed softwares. The lab is accessible round the clock. Teachers provide all relevant support with softwares. The lab is quite good.

Alumni/Alumna :

The alumni network is still not as big and as functional as that of other, similar colleges. However, the passed out students share a special bond with the space and they often visit it even after the course is over. They share their learnings from the work space which is quite helpful for the existing students.

Admission :

Step 1: Applied for the course online Step 2: Wrote a test Step 3: selected and called for interview Step 4: selected for the course The application fees is quite low and we also have the option of applying for more than 1 course in a form.

Faculty :

Some of the best academics and intellectuals in the country are working as the faculty at the university. They are quite helpful and are quite aware of the latest developments in the space of social science. One of the best thing about APU is the faculty.

Remarks:

St. Joseph's College is one of the oldest Catholic institutions and is a brand which is one of the factors that has attracted me. The reason I went with the course was because of the exposure the course offers as most of the professors are from the industry and they don't give any oldschool textbook knowledge. I wanted to do a full fledged Masters degree and not a diploma and this is one of the few colleges in Bangalore which offers this course.

Placement Experience:

Since this is a first course, the professors themselves have made a placement cell where they go out of the way to get their friends and various people from the industry to hire us. They even took down our dream list of organizations to work with and are trying to get them on board.

Admission:

I applied online and then went for the interview. The admission department asked a few basic questions and reviewed my previous marks and qualification. As the MA in Journalism and mass communication was a newly introduced course, faculty were not as strict with the admission process.

Placement Experience:

REVA promises 100% placement ASSISTANCE. It doesn't promise 100% placement. To be honest, our batch had a pretty bad experience with the placement cell. Our names were not registered to the placement cell. Teachers were quite helpful though, our faculty did help us with a few contacts for the internships and later, for jobs.

Entrance Preview:

The admissions were purely based on merit so we didn't have any entrance exam for the post graduate programme in Economics. We did have a personal interview where the Head of Department took our interview to check our interest and aptitude in the subject.

Admission:

There are forms available online (available on the website) which one can submit by filling in the required details. Once your details are submitted one can submit the nominal fee which confirms admission (post interview). Apart from that, there are physical forms available at the reception of the college from where the forms can be filled in.
