Entrance Preview :

The admissions were purely based on merit so we didn't have any entrance exam for the post graduate programme in Economics. We did have a personal interview where the Head of Department took our interview to check our interest and aptitude in the subject.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum designed for the student is all comprehensive. It focuses on detailed and intricate subject knowledge. At the end of the two year Post Graduate programme calls for submission of dissertation which is in partial completion of the two year masters programme at college for 150 marks which would be followed by Viva.

Internships Opportunities :

Yes the college does provide internship via an external source. The placement cell at the college provides for paid as well unpaid internships to the students from a plethora of work forums. These internships usually are at MNCs which usually hire the same students post their course completion.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The college has an approximate of 126 scholarships which it offers to students from different backgrounds ranging from students who are academically bright to those who are economically backward yet deserving .

Hostel Facilities :

I did not get an accommodation in the college hostel and hence I live in a PG for which I pay 6500 Rupees per month which is inclusive of the electricity bill, the Wi-Fi, T.V, Hot water facility, Washing Machine. The food has to be catered for. This is for a single room which is just about sufficient for a student.

Exam Structure :

We have a semester system so it is systematic and simultaneously leave ample time in the form of study vacations alongside the holidays that are given in the middle of the exams. The curriculum offers two multi disciplinary courses which the student can choose apart from her own department.

Admission :

There are forms available online (available on the website) which one can submit by filling in the required details. Once your details are submitted one can submit the nominal fee which confirms admission (post interview). Apart from that, there are physical forms available at the reception of the college from where the forms can be filled in.

Faculty :

Faculty at college is qualified and well informed. The department of Post Graduate Economics is helpful and loves to teach and impart all the knowledge they have. They are cooperative with those students who cannot cope up with the pressure and takes measures to help them learn.

Remarks:

St. Joseph's College is one of the oldest Catholic institutions and is a brand which is one of the factors that has attracted me. The reason I went with the course was because of the exposure the course offers as most of the professors are from the industry and they don't give any oldschool textbook knowledge. I wanted to do a full fledged Masters degree and not a diploma and this is one of the few colleges in Bangalore which offers this course.

Placement Experience:

Since this is a first course, the professors themselves have made a placement cell where they go out of the way to get their friends and various people from the industry to hire us. They even took down our dream list of organizations to work with and are trying to get them on board.

Remarks:

The college is a highly politically active space. With the space being currently dominated by one of the many political thoughts, it can be rather discomforting for many. It is suggested that the applicant is aware and tolerant of diverse political thoughts.

Admission:

I applied online and then went for the interview. The admission department asked a few basic questions and reviewed my previous marks and qualification. As the MA in Journalism and mass communication was a newly introduced course, faculty were not as strict with the admission process.

Placement Experience:

REVA promises 100% placement ASSISTANCE. It doesn't promise 100% placement. To be honest, our batch had a pretty bad experience with the placement cell. Our names were not registered to the placement cell. Teachers were quite helpful though, our faculty did help us with a few contacts for the internships and later, for jobs.
