IIIT Kottayam is one of the finest engineering colleges in South India. You can compare the placement statistics of IIIT Kottayam with the new IIITs and see how it fares better than others. Even during its first placement drive in 2019, many big companies like NISSAN, L&T, and Reliance(JIO) recruited students.
The packages offered by companies like NISSAN were in the range of 6 Lakh-10 Lakh. These numbers portray how well the institute performed even during the first placement drive which the other new IIITs failed to do. Currently, the placement scenario at IIIT Kottayam is at par with most old NITs.

You should prefer IIIT Kottayam. It has a similar curriculum as IIIT Hyderabad. IIIT Kottayam placements 2022 concluded with the highest CTC of INR 42 LPA. In the last three years, the average CTC of the institute has increased from INR 4 LPA to INR 9.68 LPA. reputed companies such as IBM, L&T, Reliance(JIO), NISSAN, etc. took part in the placement drive.
IIIT Kottayam has a thriving coding culture, almost at par with old IIITs such as IIITA, IIITG, etc. Students of the institute have been performing well in competitive coding forums.

One of my friends went for a research internship opportunity in IIIT Kottayam, and this was his first visit to South India.
As per my friend’s research domain, he was assigned to the Data Science Research group of Professor Dr. Ebin Sir. He told me that from the very first day, they discussed the project ideas and the timeline to execute their plan.
My friend was researching Deep Learning and Neural networks; hence, he was provided GPU access for the huge computation work for the deep neural study. He told me that he was stuck anywhere in this institute (IIIT Kottayam) in his entire internship tenure, not only to his guide Dr. Ebin Sir but also to the other people. The Ph.D. Scholars and Basil Sir of this institute helped him a lot, and with their support and contribution, my friend successfully reproduced an outstanding research paper on his domain.
He once told me that the server guy and non-teaching staffs of this institute are amicable. He mentioned two names: Noushad Bhaiya and Jitin Bhaiya; they still have contact with my friend. The mess service is awesome, and the mess guy is conscientious about the student's likings and disliking. The college atmosphere is very calm and pleasant, which is excellent for doing research.
So if a student is interested in research work, this institute is suitable enough to carry out their studies, and if they get a chance in this institute, they should not miss this institute.
