B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2017)

Yes, it is worthwhile pursuing Civil engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar. It is one of the oldest departments in this IIT with experienced faculty members. Although the popular belief is that, there is not much scope for civil engineering students in India. And due to the lack of core placement opportunities, most of the students who choose to study this branch of engineering, start preparing for non-core placement from their first year. But this is not the case for the civil department of IIT Bhubaneswar. Placement statistics of 2019 for this IIT shows that it holds the third-highest placement records among the engineering branches. A total of 89% students got placed with reputed organizations. The average salary package offered to students from the Civil Engineering department at this IIT is 11.44 lakh per annum and 70% of the placement was core placement.

IIT Bhubaneswar has also signed MoU with many universities for research and student exchange. The institute collaborates with foreign universities such as the University of Warwick, University of Southampton, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, University of Western Ontario, University of New York, University of North Dakota USA, and McGill University. So, internship opportunities at this IIT are excellent.
