The placement scenario for Chemical Engineering students at IIT BHU is good. Although very few core companies from the field visit the campus placements. In the recent placement drive, the average CTC offered to the Chemical Engineering students was in the range of 15-17 LPA. Last year, the highest CTC offered to the branch was 38 LPA.
Around 60% of all none core companies visiting the campus placement are open for Chemical Engineering students. You also have the option to take GATE and opt for PSU jobs.
As far as placements are concerned, there are many core companies that visit the campus regularly, key companies being HUL, RIL, KBR, etc. Opportunities in the non-core branches are Consulting, Analytics, or the IT sector. There is another option rather say placing a feather on the cap that is cracking the GATE examination. Major Oil Marketing Companies like ONGC, IOCL, BPCL, HPCL hire students through GATE. A person achieving a rank under 100 or 200 can easily get job offers from consulting firms and PSU. Usually, in campus placement companies look for better CGPA and communication skills. A person having analytical knowledge of the chemical branch can help him/her as a number of chemical and industrial companies visit the campus every year. These companies recruit most of the students from IIT BHU and another option is through GATE.
Citing an example - In 2017 ONGC recruited only Geology and Geophysics students who had an M.Sc Honors degree. ONGC recruited 30 percent of students from batch 2014-2017. The company came back in the year 2018 and the panel consisted of six members. The main focus was on the topics related to the subject and they also checked leadership qualities and teamwork experience in the applicants.
