Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) has carved a niche for India’s professional institutes and ranks 6th in Punjab. The institute maintained an average growth of 75-80% of students’ placements every year with 300 approx faculties.

Thapar University has been ranked 2nd among the 13 Indian Private Institutions by THE ASIA. It houses more than 11,000 students and consistently provides above 90% placements every year. The institute also offers scholarships worth INR 14 crores. 

Admission process:-

SLIET

• The candidates must have a valid 10+2 degree.
• The candidates must have a score in the SLIET-SET exam.
• The minimum cutoff required is in the range of 12894-45074.
• The course fee required is INR 2.67 LPA. 
• The total intake is 267.

Thapar University

• The admission in BTech requires a minimum score of 60% marks in 10+2 with science stream. 
• JEE Main is compulsory for admission in BTech. 
• The percentile required is 90.
• The total seats allocated are 300.
• The fees required is INR 3.24 LPA. 

Placements:- 

SLIET always maintains 75-80% campus placement every year. A total of 192 placement offers were made to the students of SLIET in 2019. CSE received the highest amount of placement of 80%.

Thapar university maintains a good placement record of 90% every year. In 2019, it witnessed a participation of 264 prominent companies and the BTech candidates get the highest amount of placement. 

The top recruiters are Cognizant, Infosys, Hindustan Unilever Limited, TCS, Samsung, Honda, Coca Cola, Mother Dairy, Godrej, IBM, Adobe, etc. 

SLIET being a government university, has better infrastructure and is much ahead of Thapar University. The fees at SLIET are much lesser than Thapar University.

I have friends from both Tezpur University and SLIET Sangrur. Based on the conversations I had with them, I will say for CSE TU is far better. 

• The CSE department of Tezpur University has a great faculty base. It is definitely better than SLIET.
• The university focuses on practical approaches rather than theoretical knowledge. Apart from this, it provides an amazing opportunity for students to work with the Government of India-funded projects. 
• The placements at TU are any day better than SLIET. According to the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered was between 3.5 LPA-10 LPA. 

So, TU is better than SLIET in all respects. It is in fact the best option to do CSE after IIT-G.

Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) ranks 151 among India’s top universities as per NIRF 2020 ranking. It always maintains a placement record of 75-80% from its campus every year.

PEC Chandigarh, on the other hand, is one of the oldest and prestigious colleges in India. It ranks 78th among the top engineering colleges in India and provides above 80% placements in top quality MNCs to the deserving students.

• The students applying for UG and PG programs must submit JEE Main and GATE exam scores, respectively. 

SLIET

• The candidates who have passed 10+2 in the science stream are eligible to apply. 
• The candidates must take the JEE Main examination, which is followed by JoSAA counselling. 

Placements

SLIET

PEC and SLIET are two of the best colleges for pursuing engineering courses. PEC offers a favourable atmosphere for learning and exposure to various activities. SLIET is a government-funded institute where the candidates get admission on the basis of JEE marks. SLIET has a nominal fee structure compared with PEC. However, both these institutes maintain the same placements record.

Boys Hostel -

The hostel provides Internet, Indoor sports facilities, Daily Newspapers and weekly magazines, Reading room facilities, Visitor room facilities, Guest rooms for parents and students, TV room, Cafeteria, Geyser, water cooler in each floor, Gym in girls hostel and Library.

MTech in ECE is a 2 year full time course involving researching, designing, developing and testing of electrical equipment.

CSE involves computer programming and networking, computation, algorithms, programming languages, program design, computer software and hardware. Computer Engineers can work as System Database Administrator, Computer Programmer, Engineering Support Specialist, Data Warehouse Analyst, System Designer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Lecturer or Professor, Computer Operator and Research Analyst.
