Should I take mechanical engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar or in IIT Dhanbad?

In terms of pursuing mechanical engineering IIT Dhanbad would be the better option. Former is better IIT Dhanbad was established in 1926 whereas IIT Bhubaneswar came in 2008. In terms of placement, faculty, ranking, academic excellence IIT Dhanbad stays in upper hand. The reasons to choose IIT Dhanbad are as follows:

Ranking and reputation: IIT Dhanbad ranked 17 among the best engineering schools in the nation in 2023, which reflects the academic excellence, facilities, professor strength, etc. of the institution.
Faculty: All of the faculty members are intelligent and welcoming. They are extremely knowledgeable in their fields. Their course syllabus is appropriate for students who are interested in working in the core industry in the future.

The placement for mechanical engineering in ISM Dhanbad is quite good and the placement statistics of 2019 show there were around 72.7% placements with an average CTC of 14.4 LPA. Reputed industries of mechanical sectors like Tata Motors, Hero, Maruti Suzuki hires the students in large numbers. PSUs like CIL, NLC, and other oil companies also recruit the candidates in large numbers every year.

IIT Bhubaneswar on the other hand has witnessed a record placement in the mechanical engineering sector with 83% placement. Out of 35 students in mechanical engineering, 32 got secured positions in the campus placements. The average package offered was around 11.44 LPA and students got placed in the top 89 companies that visited the campus in 2019.
