While the CS branch of both IIT Patna and IIT Hyderabad has excellent academic environments and placements, it’s the fractal system of IIT Hyderabad that steals the show. Under this, students are free to choose electives from a pool of subjects. These can even be core subjects of the department or can be also from other departments. This system helps the students pursue other branches along with CS which keeps all options open for them. Most IIT Hyderabad students are satisfied with this system.
IIT Patna lacks such a system and thus has a slight disadvantage in this aspect. No doubt, IIT Patna fairs better in terms of infrastructure, but academically, IIT Hyderabad is the clear winner.
In my opinion, CSE in IIT Hyderabad is the best option amongst the aforementioned institutes. EEE in BITS Pilani is not a good option unless you are interested in core Electronics. This is because the future is CS-oriented and everyone is out there trying to secure lucrative job opportunities in the same. I wouldn’t suggest you target a branch change from EEE to CS in Pilani as for that you will require a very high CGPA as high as 9.7 which is very very tough to get.
Speaking of BITS Goa, it is known for its amazing new coding culture and no compulsory attendance policy. However, nothing can match the brand value of IIT.
IIT Hyderabad focuses primarily on AI and ML which is very beneficial for your future.
Thus it can be concluded that IIT Hyderabad is a better option for you.
For a PhD, class 12th marks are given considerably less importance given that your graduation and post-graduation grades are great.
For a Ph.D. abroad, since you will be seeking direct admission into the university and not approaching a specific professor, your past academics matter a lot. Having good class 12 marks, graduation, and post-graduation marks will improve your chances of admission and it’s always better to play safe.
In case of average marks, you have the option to write to a professor in Europe who is working in a field that aligns with your research project topic. If you share a common ground with any professor you can get admission by skipping the entire formal admission procedure although you might have to appear for some interviews that will evaluate your research caliber.
Overall, my recommendation is to apply everywhere as long as money is not involved. In cases you are required to send documents or GRE scores you need to be careful.
IIT Hyderabad offers India’s first BTech in Computational Engineering
Aim and Scope: The course offers a holistic approach that will integrate the principles of engineering disciplines.
Students become proficient in high-level numerical methods and algorithms, modeling and simulations of engineering systems and processes, high-performance computing, process control, and optimization, data analytics, and machine learning.
During the initial five semesters, the student acquires in-depth knowledge of mathematical methods, state-of-the-art numerical techniques, development of mathematical models, computer simulations, etc
During the last semesters, students are allowed to choose from a large number of electives to gain specialized knowledge. These electives cover diverse topics like advanced manufacturing, structural design, process engineering, etc
Benefits of the program
Curriculum
Computational Engineering is an interdisciplinary BTech program comprising 4 main components namely
Overall, the prospects for computational engineering at IT Hyderabad are very good. If you are interested in this field and meet the eligibility criteria, I would highly recommend considering IT Hyderabad as an option for your higher education.
The campus life at IIT Hyderabad is very laid back and convenient. In the first year, you just need to travel about 25 mins every day by bus at around 8:20 am to attend the classes and once the classes are over, you have to again travel the same distance back to your room. Sometimes, students get shifted to a new room in the first month.
IIT Hyderabad has two campuses, one is at Kandi, where the academic block is situated while the other campus is at ODF Medak where the first-year students live. Students are shifted to the new campus after a year.
However, if you fail to get your MSc project lab in the new campus then your last year of MSc has to be spent in the old campus again. Overall, the life of an MSc student at IT Hyderabad is unpredictable.
It’s highly illogical to measure IIT Hyderabad, the fastest-growing new IIT with a private institute BITS.
I feel IIT Hyderabad is the better option for CS in comparison to BITS Hyderabad.
Here is a comparison of IIT Hyderabad CSE and IIT Guwahati based on some common parameters.
Sparing the campus issue, CSE from IIT Hyderabad seems to be a better option than CSE from IIT Guwahati.
NIT Warangal, was amongst the first 10 NITs to be established, ranks 19th for engineering by NIRF while IIT Hyderabad is ranked 17rd by NIRF. Both these institutes are centres of excellence in academics and have cut-throat competition.

IIT Hyderabad-
It is very tough to distinguish between these colleges as these are premier institutes of the nation. Infrastructurally they are almost at par with all facilities available. Faculties are highly qualified, few being involved in many government funded research projects. Hence, it is up to the student to choose a given course in a particular college.
Among the newly established IITs, IIT Hyderabad has been growing exponentially and has been ranked 9th by NIRF, one of the highest-ranking bodies.
My friend was a part of the BTech in Power Electronics and Power Systems program and he enlightened me about the academic environment there. According to him, IIT Hyderabad is a great place for research enthusiasts
This place is great for research-oriented students as it has a rich research culture.
Irrespective of the IIT you choose, CS placements are excellent everywhere with very lucrative packages offered to its top rankers. A good student can pay a package as high as INR 30-40 LPA in CS whereas the same students will only end up with a package of INR 10–15 LPA.
While many may comment that placements should not be the only determining factor, I am here to contradict that opinion. CS is a branch that is dynamic and any engineering aspirants will be attracted to it naturally while other branches are a bit rigid and require specific attention.
As far as CSE at IIT BHU is concerned, it’s at par with most older IITs. The majority of the batch is pre-placed or placed on the first day itself. A few top recruiters include Goldman Sachs, Oracle, Microsoft, etc.
