The reputation of Prof. Anju Seth has been tainted recently with allegations of promoting cost-cutting of the institute. This has largely affected the quality of research conducted. Some major changes due to this cost cutting are:
Digital subscriptions have been taken off our library
No payments to the institute’s support/admin staff for work like minor tasks during convocation or dressing the students and helping them out during the event.
Many students suffered during the pandemic as they were not allowed to leave without paying
Although the students, alumni, and faculty all have voiced their concern to the management but in vain.
BITS Pilani assistant professor salary is approximately around INR 97,000/month before taxes, including DA. The salary amount is decided based on the UGC scale. It also depends on the designation and experience of the faculty member. Other than salary, the faculty members of BITS Pilani get housing benefits.
I have a few friends from University of Allahabad and according to them, the faculty at Allahabad University is amazing. Moreover, the Maths department is the biggest department in Allahabad University. The teachers are well-experienced and cooperative.
The faculty at Allahabad University is not only famous for Maths but also for Chemistry. And due to this reason, every year you get to see at least 2 to 3 students clear in research exams and further get selected in IITs for research.
You can consider University of Allahabad as a valid option for your B.Sc in Mathematics.
IT at IIEST Shibpur can be good but you need to utilize the opportunities you get properly. The infrastructure at the institute is good. Microsoft also recruits students from campus placements. In the past students have bagged good internship opportunities. One of the students was accepted for Google California (Internship). Compared to the CSE, the IT branch is a little behind in terms of salary packages offered. However, this branch has good diversity.
Faculties for CSE and IT branches are comparable and the IT department even has better faculty members for a few of the subjects. The main difference between CSE and IT is that IT is a sandwich branch of CST and Electronics. So, naturally, you will need to study some Electronics subjects too. For Communication Systems, the IT branch does not have decent faculties. Adding to that, the subject is also not that useful for the future. Despite that this subject eats a chunk of the time of IT students.
Another difference is CST introduces important subjects like algorithms in the 2nd year itself. Whereas, IT introduces these topics one year later.
Basically, the essence is the same for the two branches, there are some minor differences in curriculum and lab work. How you do in placements depends on your hard work.
Any visiting professor or faculty member, like L Gurunathan from XLRI, is paid on an hourly basis. It is rather a fair amount to share. For a full credit 30 hour course, a professor like him can be paid anywhere from Rs. 8,000 per hour to Rs. 15,000 per hour. Generally, new IIMs pay a lot higher than what old IIMs pay, which somehow can be anticipated.
The best guess still remains to be around Rs. 10,000 per hour or a whole 3 lac, if the professor invests for a full credit course. Other than that, if you wish to know how L Gurunathan in XLRI is known to be, then read the progression.
L Gurunathan had taught Comp. and Benefits in the Talent Management course online offered solely by XLRI - VIL programs to my younger cousin alongside other students, and as he reports, his vantage point isn't likely the best. Students comparatively arrive with basic industry knowledge, but his attitude towards them doesn’t remain smooth at all. It is something to consider.
He also, over time, has failed providing students important notes, handouts or book suggestions, unlike many other professors. Students have often come up saying that his indifferent behaviour has led into not sharing better information of Comp. and Benefits which rather is a very technical subject itself.
He is somehow infamous for not teaching the proper structures of a topic. He teaches what he thinks about, which practically can be chaotic, if not followed a pattern. The story however does not end there. L Gurunathan, when asked for various case studies or book suggestions, directly moves into denial, saying that his teachings on the topic are strictly based on one.
Manipal University, Jaipur has better faculty and placements compared to JECRC University. The university offers a hands-on learning experience to students. The professors are well-experienced and have in-depth knowledge in their respective fields.
Companies such as Amazon, Accenture, SAP Labs, ZS Associates, etc. take part in the placement drive. Manipal University Jaipur placements in 2022 ended with an average CTC of INR 7 LPA. While the highest CTC offered was INR 55 LPA.

Below given table shows a comparison between the two of the best colleges under Delhi University to pursue B. Sc (Hons.) in Chemistry.
ST. STEPHENS | HINDU | |
NIRF RANKING | #1 | #3 |
TOTAL FEES (APPROX.) | 1.2 LACS | 55K |
ACCREDITED | NAAC ‘A’ GRADE | NAAC ‘A+’ GRADE |
Academics:
According to previous year, the cut off for admission to Hindu college for B. Sc (hons.) in Chemistry was 96.66% and in St. Stephen's it was 92%. The faculty contingency in both the colleges is very well reputed, dedicated and felicitated having won many recognitions to their name. It is not justified to distinguish between the teachers as all are almost at par with academic qualifications, achievements but are restricted by curriculum and different teaching patterns. Both the colleges organize national conferences and workshops for the holistic development of the students and to gain industry exposure.
Placement Opportunities:
The key feature which sets Stephen's apart is that when it comes to applying abroad for higher studies or internships or fellowship programmes, a lot of graduates have had the opportunity to do so owing to the scholarships and collaborations with foreign universities like Oxford, Yale and Cambridge. It has a more disciplined and rigorous and calm aura about itself not being as actively a part of the very famous DU fests as compared to other colleges. There are many ongoing research projects funded by SERB and UGC. Top recruiters being Hetero drugs, Emami, Homi Bhaba Centre for Science Education, BCG etc. offering a median salary of around 9LPA.
In the Hindu college, the median salary package for B. Sc in Chemistry at offer was 5LPA and average placement rate was low as most of the graduates sought to opt for higher studies. The top recruiters were DE Shaw, KPMG, IndiaBulls amongst others. Organizations like Empower India, Philip Morris International, Outlook rolled out internship opportunities too.
It is difficult to mention one faculty who is the most approachable in IIM Lucknow, but Rajiv Kumar Srivastava is one among the rare.
About Prof. Rajiv Kumar Srivastava:
Qualifications:
Research Areas:
He has done his research in Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management in Theory and Practice, IT Applications in Operations Management, pedagogical approaches in Production/Operations Management, and Management Literature.
Recent Research Interest:
One of my closest friends attended IIM Lucknow, and Prof. Rajiv Kumar Srivastava used to be his favorite faculty.
It may not be right to compare the colleges under DU among each other. As most of them have similar curriculum and teaching techniques.
But if infrastructure is considered Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) is far better than other colleges under DU. As it is a newly established institution, the facilities provided are upgraded with the latest technology.
They also are known to have a very highly experienced faculty, some of them even having 20-30 years of teaching experience. DDUC is popular for its Science and Commerce streams.
Therefore if you wish to choose among DDUC and ARSD College for an Honours degree in Computer Science, it is suggested that you go for the former rather than the latter.
